Hi. This is my first post on this website but I have been a lurker for months. My gf and I just got back from the diamond district in NYC and we found a ring that is amazing. It''s a round diamond with a halo setting and from Ben Moses Jewelry. First question- has anyone worked with them before? Also, they showed us two diamonds: a 2 carat I/Si1 GIA and a 2.37 G/SI2 EGL. They both were excellent cuts and beautiful. However..for the two carat, he is charging us $15000 (which is our max). My gf liked the 2 carat but she wants the bigger stone which is out of our price range.
So she has also been looking at Solomon Brothers online which has some great priced stones. The thing that I''m worried about is that it''s EGL certified and of course online. Should I look for something G/VS2 if it''s an EGL cert or should I stick with I/J/SI1/SI2? She wants eye clean and near colorless too.
What she was thinking about too was getting the loose stone at solomon brothers and getting a setting from pearlmans. Anyone have any ideas or should I just stick with the ben moses 2 carat ring?? Price range is $10000-$15000. Just keep in mind, the gf wants the bigger the better.

Well, with EGL G SI2 you could be getting a GIA/AGS I I1 for all purposes due to their generally softer grading on color and clarity.

Welcome Ariana,

Very pretty ring! EGL labs are not created equal with EGL USA said to be the strongest of the EGL labs. What I would do if this is the one you want, check Soloman have a good return policy and get the diamond checked by an independant appraiser during this time to make sure it checks out. You can look for a grade higher for colour and clarity if buying EGL to see if it checks out or closer to the actual grade you are happy with.

Here is a tool you can use to find an appraiser in your area.

Also if you want post the proportions of each diamond you are considering here and we can take a look for you.
