It does look bigger than 1ct, but I have teeny fingers.

No, actually it does not have a huge spread. A normal well cut round stone will have a 6.4 to 6.5mm diameter, but a lot of old stones like this one have greater depth and they face up smaller.

But it is difficult to account for the visual difference in this stone and your e-ring stone. What is the diameter of the e-ring stone? It should be something like 5.7mm.

I also think the setting height may have led me to think it was bigger as well.
