Hearts on fire vs. "Regular"

I have been doing a lot of looking, both in person and on the internet. I started with a cushion, but the more I look and speak with jewelers, the more they recommend round cuts. Any thoughts???


My other main question was, should I get a smaller hearts on fire diamond .9, I VVS2 which was I think approximately $7200 (which is very high for that size) or a larger "regular" diamond. I know I do not need a VVS2, so I would drop down to SI1 if it is eye clean, but I am still torn, any advice?

First, I''m not sure why jewelers were recommending rounds, unless it was because you wanted the greatest finger coverage, which a round will give. Otherwise, buy what captures your heart!

Secondly, if you do decide on a round, no, you don''t need a HOF. Any well cut round will be beautiful, and at a savings, which could get you a bigger stone.

Agreed!!!! Round cut stones do in general give off the most sparkle, but cushions are gorgeous too. Just a different look.

If you want the look of a HOF diamond but without the pricetag, check out Whiteflash''s selection of ACA diamonds. They are cut with amazing precision just like HOF, but only carry a teeeeensy premium compared to the HOF stones.

If you want a cushion get a cushion. If you decide to get a round don't get a hearts on fire unless she or you want a hearts on fire for the name and history of it. Afterall, the same cut is the same cut and equal light performance is equal light performance. But then again, we are all paying huge bucks for a natural diamond...why exactly is that? so do whatever you think is necessary, but if its to get a beautiful natural diamond I think you don't have to worry about HoF. and bump for JA, I have been working with James Allen and they are INCREDIBLE.

A round will apper larger in diameter for the same weight as a cushion because cushions are generally deeper stones. And cushions are much harder to judge without seeing in person.

And as the others have said, HOF is just one of many diamonds with a hearts and arrows cut. Both Good Old Gold and WhiteFlash have the best in-house selections. I have diamonds from both and consider them equal to HOF in every respect.

I own jewelry with Hearts on Fire diamonds and jewelry with Whiteflash's A Cut Above diamonds. I can tell you that both use beautifully cut stones that look identical in appearance, but Whiteflash will be much less expensive. Also I think you would be fine with an eye clean SI1. Why pay for what you can't see? They are probably pushing rounds because they are generally easier to find.

First of all, BUY WHAT YOU WANT, not what the B&M salesperson thinks. If you want a CUSHION, buy a cushion.

HOF, are beautiful diamonds, but they are way over PRICED!!! Plus, you will have to pay TAX on your B&M purchase!!!

I have ACAs and they are gorgeous and way less expensive than HOF or as one poster said, WALLETS ON FIRE!!!

Buying from a PS vendor, honestly, is the smartest way to go......PRICE WISE and QUALITY WISE!!!

Do the MATH and you will see!!!

Buying a recognized BRAND such as ACA or HoF, etc gives very strong assurance to the novice consumre of obtaining a very fine product. How much a person wishes to pay, over and above actual un-branded value, is a function of the success of the specific brand''s marketing. It is a free market and asking prices for specific brands of virtually identical quality vary quite a bit.

There are un-branded diamonds that can mimic the best of the branded ones, but how can a consumer know that they are making a good choice with such a blind situation? Branding does have a importance in giving this assurance.

Only a couple high performance, extraordinarily well cut cushion types exist. Most cushions are greatly compromised in cut quality from an "ideal" light performance rating. There are a few cushionswhich were much like the Hearts and Arrows round ideal cut diamonds, but they are not easy to obtain. Mostly, people into cushion shapes are looking for the less travelled road and a somewhat indiividualized "look".

Once you know if it is round or cushion you want, there are lots of safe choices that can be made so you don''t waste a ton of your money. If you really like a particular brand that happens to be on the higher side of price, no problem. Each person has to fulfill their own agenda when it comes to these matters.
