I went and looked at a HOF ring today. Three diamonds with the center being .5 and both sides .25 for a total fo 1CT. White gold six prong setting. $7,400.

I ''ve been looking at Whiteflash but this ring I saw today was brilliant. Is this really overpaying for the ring?

Make fun if you like - I''m new. I can take some ribbing in exchange for some good advice!

LOL!! Ok, you know what we call them around here? Wallets on Fire.

Seriously, I have seen HOF's, and I own a pair of ACA studs, and a killer branded H&A from GOG in my upgrade. They are MORE beautiful than some HOF. Not kidding. And HOF are WAY over priced, way.

I promise you, you can get just as stunning a ring, if not more so, going online, and pay a substantial amount less.

Continue to have fun. It''s good to look at local options.

Note, sounds like...for comparables, if you stayed with the ring I mentioned previously, and added this center diamond, you''d spend 1/2.

If thinking about WF...they''re short ACA options in the $5K range. Two alternates, meanwhile, you might want to consider from them, anyway, are these.

Regards,

Ditto, I have a co worker who spent a lot more than me, a couple thousand for a HOF and our rings sparkle the same. So I agree with Ellen and Regular Guy! RG posted some beautiful stones for you.

ROFL El!!!

It is good that you are looking around. Here is what I recommend you do (''cause I did it myself!) - purchase a well cut stone/ring with the info you have learned. THen when you receive it, take it with you to the HOF store and compare your ring side by side to the HOF (with the intention that you will return the one you purchased if it does not perform up to snuff). THen walk away from the HOF dealer gloating at how much $$$ you saved. :)

Ira! I can''t tell you how pleased I am to have met you. Honestly. I beleive the .813 carat ring will be mine with the original setting you gave me. Just assure me that they''ll shine as much - please.

Couple of things. When I receive he ring would you have it appraised independantly? If nothing else for insurance purposes?

Also - with the meony you just saved me I will get her the wedding band. Suggestions?

Thanks as always

I''d suggest finding a good jeweler that can set diamonds you bring to them. Then you can get them certified and to the exact type you want and it will save you thousands or you can spend the same and get upgraded diamonds which is what I''d recommend. It may look almost the same, but it will be worth much more and you will be happier with it. You could get all IF and E or F diamonds for that price.

Hwk (like to share your first name?),

I'm so pleased.

I'm simple, too, and could go with the matching knife edge here on page one...or I like a few on page 2. I'd merely suggest combining your sensibilities with their advice.

Re an appraiser... I do favor it, especially if we can get it to make sense. Where are you...what city/state?

Their goods will come with paperwork, but there's certainly advantages to getting your own appraisal, including to have the recorded price be "efficient" for insurance purposes, as you say. Depending on where you are...if you're looking for recommendations...we can help you.

My fisrt name is Doug. You can refer to me as Happy Doug after today. I live in NH and am very interested in some appraising help now as I pulled the trigger and got the following:

This plus and

I know the center diamond is smaller than i was initially looking at but I REALLY liked the look of the HOF ring as the size was near perfect. I guess bigger is not always better and this might be one of those cases. (I hope so) I decided to go with Platinum and chose the .77 ct. wedding band. It only cost me $690 more!

Thanks again Ira and everyone. What do you think of ym final choices?

Doug,

A few thought for you:

a) Nice selections, all, but,

b) given what you've selected....and I think your WF friends will point this out to you...you're short 2 diamonds. That is...some of their 3 stone rings come with 2 sidestones...some don't. Frankly...I think the one you picked has a design calling for 3 approximately equal sized diamonds. So...given your change of model, you're short two. Unless I'm crazy. Just make sure you read the descriptions...cause that's all I did.

c) For appraisers...how far is Boston. If too far...work by mail with a couple of easy picks. But, if not...consider interviewing two:

a) this guy, listed here, and who posts here with some frequency, and
b) this guy, not listed here (ask him why...I don't know why), who also posts here, and is cranky, brilliant, and who may be perfect or terrible to work with...possibly both, and maybe ideal or not...depending on you.

P.S. Edited to add...and backing up. I read above....you pulled the trigger?

Get them to explain what your ring will look like, based on what you've purchased with their agreement. Your having pulled the trigger was based on an actual conversation you had with a rep there, right?

Ira,

I did omit the fact that i also purchased two ACA .25 stones to accompany the .547 stone. Because I really liked the simplicity yet brilliance of the HOF I tried to recreate it - with a little twist. I talked to Traci there about all the selections including the .814 ct stone you suggested (it was the template for the one i eventually chose). Traci confirmed that the ratio will look great. Beleive it or not I was afaid that the other was too big. Besides - if I am wrong - they''ll take it back and i can upgrade correct? We aslo discussed whether to go with the .55 WB or the .77. It made since to me to see the progression of the .15 stones in the WB up to the .25 stones in the ER leading up to the .5 center stone. In my mind it will be perfect. Traci assured me the brilliane of these stone will rival those that looked at in person for the HOF ring.

Thanks again for your help and concern. I will look into the appraisers. Boston is about an hour away. Certainly not too far to get a job well done.

I usually keep my Ira Rosetta Stone handy, but needed only one read of that to spit water on the screen. LOL!
