Would a half-bezel or a full bezel setting defeat the purpose of a H&A diamond since you will only really be able to see the top of the diamond?

Once set in most settings you will not see the hearts portion- the point of the H&A is to show a craftsmanship of precision to exact cut standards.

You can see H&A diamonds set in all types of ways in the "show me the ring" section of this site- beautiful.

I had a half bezel setting, and I see the Arrows portion of it. I have a full bezel 3/4 eternity band in 1 pointer, and when I loupe it, I can still see the arrows. Its your preference I love both style but if you want an all around well protected diamond then Full Bezel.. Let me find a picture of what I"m talking about. be right back

These are all H&A diamonds (I just didn't get the right angles to capture the arrow shots)

I''m not sure what you mean? Regardless of the setting you''re only going to see the top portion of the diamond. The hearts are on the bottom of the diamond. If you''d like a more open setting so you can see the sides too, then maybe prongs would be a better choice for you.

I think it''s the other way around...maybe the H&A aren''t for me. I am looking for a 5 or 6mm 18kt gold band with a ''subtle'' look, so something similar to these are what I am leaning towards. The prong style setting is something I want to stay away from.

I made it clickable, but not sure what you mean?

But if you are considering either ring, I like them both.
