Well, it''s Friday and we''re thinking of getting Chinese take out and watching a movie tonight. I''m looking for healthy (or relatively healthy) dishes to look for. I''ve recently had steamed chicken with vegetables and while I loved everything in the dish itself, the flavor was so bland that I didn''t enjoy the meal. I could do sushi, which I know is very healthy, but I''m in the mood for something with some sort of sauce.

Any ideas?

What are you doing for dinner?

You can usually get the steamed chicken and veggies with sauce on the side. Then you can delicately "dip" into the sauce instead of pouring it on. You can save a lot of cals that way...

But as far as what sauces are the healthiest...I really have no idea!

Thanks Neatfreak! I know there''s a lot of sodium and other unhealthy ingredients in Chinese food (sauces, in particular, I think). I might get steamed chicken and veggies and ask for sauce on the side. Garlic sauce might be tasty. Mmmmm.

I''m a big fan of tofu, but silken tofu in vegetable soup, maybe with chicken and an egg, not stir fried so its all greasy (though that is tasty, but not that calorie-lite).

If you like soup, and they have one like that, I recommend it. It won''t be "low fat," in the sense that there will be oil in the soup from the veggies, BUT the water fills you up so you eat less (at least me).

unfortunately chinese food is not all that healthy unless you get veggies and chicken or shrimp with no oil or sauce. and then yeah lots of times people feel it''s bland. and even then it probably was still salted within an inch of it''s life, chinese is sooo high in sodium. i agree re sauce on the side to dip into. hope dinner was yummy!

I know I am too late...you have already ordered. I would say never on fried rice. Try to order brown whole grain if is it offered. Steam everything...and Kung Pao it baby. The pepper will leave you with a sense of satisfaction and definately not bland. Hot mustard is the same. You can use it as sauce and POW you get that bite in your nose! I love that! Pain! Weird huh? Bland...not so with pepper and mustard.

There are many restaurants that will cater if you just ask. Ask what extent of healty they are willing to do. It may suprise you...geeze, now you have me craving some...gotta raid the fridge! §

Okay, so yes, we did get Chinese good last night. It was yummy! We love brown rice and we tried to order it but we ended up with boiled or steamed white rice. I also got Chinese vegetable soup with tofu and and steamed chicken and veggies with sauce on the side. I used enough for my liking and there was still plenty left in the container, which I threw away. I haven''t had the soup yet -- that''s tonight''s dinner. Overall, it was a very tasty dinner and I''m looking forward to the soup later on.

tee hee

Isn''t that an oxymoron?

The key to healthy Chinese is to find ''authentic'' chinese food (and not the deep-fried, oiled covered gunk we call chinese)
unfortunately it''s hard to find--we don''t have it in our small city

When i visited china i didn''t see a chicken ball, ''egg roll'' as we know it or even fried rice--there were many delious and nutritious dishes but we can''t seem to get them here...

i am going to keep your selections in mind next time i order from a local joint
