HD Camcorder?

Anyone have thoughts on HD Camcorders? My current video cam is 12 years old. DH thinks it is time to update a bit! Every time we go to Costco we eye this guy.

I don''t have one, but I just got two of the SR12''s for a friend of mine through industry discounts. She and her father (who got the other one) absolutely love it.

They just had price drops on the SR11 and 12, so at least it is a little more affordable than it was. Of course in another year, it will be half the price. You know how it goes with technology, buy and don''t look back because tomorrow there will be something cheaper and better.

That being said, these are HD camcorders so I would say invest in good HD editing software. Doesn''t mean you can author (not to be confused with "burn") to blueray and play on your HDTV btw...companies have been slow to get their act together on this one. No point in all that footage if it''s going to stay on your camcorder!

I''m looking at these cams to tape Amelia. Even though every day is precious with a baby, I am waiting another year on this one. I just don''t want to pay a grand for a HD camcorder which is about to become the norm. When that happens, they''ll come down to consumer friendly prices - much like HDTV''s have done.

This is exactly what I''ve been thinking. I''d like to wait another year, but, DH is chomping at the bit to get one. He''s obsessed with all things HD. We already have a camcorder, but, it is old and HUGE! Still, I think I''ll wait for the tech ducks to get in a row before I shell out so much money.
