I''ve now confused myself. We have two diamonds. One, which I think is fairly deep gets inside the GIA excellent box, but scores horribly on the HCA:

63.6% depth, 57% table, 15% crown, 44% pavilion, 0% culet
(could not figure out how to cut and past table from HCA)

Next, we have a "hearts and arrows" diamond, good HCA, but not even close to AGS or GIA. HELP!

59% depth, 58% table, 12% crown, 43% pavilion, 0% culet
(same)

THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

This is because GIA Excellent cut grade is broad, and can allow for some undesirable combos such as steep deep crown and pavilion angles, I would pass on this one for sure. The other diamond appears to be shallower, I take it these are EGL graded? Do you know which EGL lab graded these diamonds, such as EGL USA, Israel, Antwerp or other etc? Also don't take labels such as hearts and arrows literally, because a diamond may display an arrow pattern or hearts, does not make it a true example of the strict cutting style. Are these with an online vendor or have you seen them in person? Also do you have any photos of the diamonds, or an Idealscope image?

Both are EGL-Israel graded. My concern really focused on the fact that the second diamond has pretty good HCA numbers but is pretty far off from AGS or GIA standards.

Probably because the diamond has a very shallow pavilion angle by the look of it, if you like this second diamond, then make the sale final on it checking out with an independant appraiser - to check the accuracy of the EGL Israel grading, and that the crown angle isn''t a durability risk. Do you not have any GIA or AGS diamonds you like the look of? If you like, you could give us your desired colour, clarity and carat and budget, then we can suggest some diamonds you might like.
