Need opinions on this 4.02 E Round Brilliant. I have a few questions... why does it get a Very Good from GIA rather than Excellent? HCA Score is .7. All of the measurements seem excellent with the possible exception of lower half?? Should it be 80 or below? Is this a measurement that really matters? I''ve been hanging out here so much and have learned so much, but I''m really still a novice and...I don''t want to make a mistake but also don''t want to get too hung up on small details that may not affect performance. Obviously, this is a very big investment, so if I should be more patient and keep looking I need to know that!

PLEASE HELP! Thanks in advance!

Here are the stats from the GIA report:
Round Brilliant

GIA consider the lower girdle facets to be too long at 85%

You can enter the data on their version of HCA here

Gary, does that mean they truly ARE at 85%? because we know they round. So I guess I''m asking, do they grade on their rounded numbers, or exact?

Thanks Garry. Do you think that would have an impact on performance especially with an HCA score of .7?

It is an interesting case.
I think in this stone we should hope that GIA has measured the length accurately at 85% because the stone will look better than one with 80%.

When GIA conducted their grading survey they used not very large stones. they even acknowledged publically that this was a weakness (Tom Moses in answer to a question from Sergey at a GIA presentation at Basel trade fair).

This image shows the stone would be much brighter with longer LG''s (80 vs 85%) and across the board the DiamCalc light return and contrast etc are better.

So snap it up baby!
And one day when GIA fix their system, you will be able to get an pgraded report

I have been educating myself for almost a year now...using HCA as my bible so this is extremely helpful. I''m not sure if we will be able to come to terms on price, so just in case here are two others that I am seriously considering- Do you have an opinion on these?? Obviously the prices ar a little better, but it was really nice to find an E 4 carat

E sI1 is my pick based on you seeing more color as the size goes up.

You will probably be able to find a beauty spot to use to easily identify ''your'' diamond. But you will see color in H, and sometimes in G

I doubt it will be eye clean to an under 30 year old storm - that is what I wrote about a beauty spot.
Bigger the size, the bigger the inclusions GIA accept as SI''s

Garry, Thanks for the explanation! As I''m sure you already noticed, I didn'' t even ask what you meant by beauty spot...I just kind of let it go over my head!!

Now I get it!!

That (SI1) doesn''t bother me or my 50 year old eyeballs...Cut is my #1, 2, and 3 priority...plus it helps with the $...
