I had just purchased GIA certified RB solitaire ring, May I know if it is of a good quality? If not I shall probably consider an exchange. It is visually very sparkly. It score HCA 0.7 and is under the TIC range. Its also graded "Excellent" in Polish and symmetry. Why is it only of a very good cut grade and not excellent? One more concern. the clarity is VS1 and I can see a feather with a 10X loupe down in the pavilion nearer to the side of the culet, but not right on the tip. Does that post a durability issue. The specs are as follow:

THANK YOU in advance!

Carat weight: 0.72
Clarity: VS1
Color:E
Cut:Very Good
Total Depth: 61.9%
Table Size:55%
Crown Angle:35.0%
Crown Height: 15.5%
Pavilion Angle: 40.4%
Pavilion Depth: 42.5%
Star Length:50%
Lower Half:80%
Girdle: Med to STK, Faceted (3.5%)
Culet: None
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Fluorescence: Med blue
Comment: None
Inclusion: Feather

The pavilion angle is the reason why it got a VG cut grade rather than Ex. VS1 feather shouldn't be any kind of durability issue. The diamond looks promising so if you could get an Idealscope image that would be very useful.

Thanks Lorelei~

But how and where can I obtain the Idealscope image? tks

wow there are so many scope there:) may I know which is the one i should look at? tks!

gia graded it VG because of the pavilion angle because it could have obstruction issues up close.
This is offset somewhat by the longer Lower Half %

I have an stud with that exact C/P combo - 35, 40.4, 80 LGF, 50 Star (though mine is a .5ct, and those numbers are GIA rounded).

I have dark skin, dark hair, dark eyes.. you get the picture. The stone visibly darkens if I hold it in my hand and lean over it - this is head obstruction, I think? Compared to the other earring, which has the same spread but is deeper and 35/40.8, it looks whiter (both are Js) and brighter at arm''s length but I swear there''s less fire when I twirl them.

Idealscope images will tell you if you''re going to have a problem.

They''re in my ears and they''re dazzling, so I don''t care to bemoan the minutae of performance differences, but I personally would look for something more like my 35/40.8 in a ring, I like that type of ''performance'' better.

yes that would be an obstruction problem caused by head shadow, which isn''t a problem with earrings because of the longer viewing distance.

Only 8 posts to date? Nice homework and real-world observation, Yssie.

Yikes! I didn''t mean to overstep here, really!

Just posting my casual observations - it really was hard to miss when I bought the studs two years ago, actually trying to find out why one went dark and the other didn''t brought me here to PS - I thought maybe I had one diamond and one simulant! Now I''ve lurked for 2 years and I can put a name to it

Sorry for minor threadjack - out

Yssie, I'm certain John meant that as a genuine compliment, not a criticism. He's impressed with how thoroughly you understand the details of cut despite your apparent inexperience. (Not knowing how long you were a lurker.)

Absolutely, Yssie John was paying you a big compliment on how well you observed and understood this effect in a diamond!!!!

ah, well, impressing the experts is an excellent way to out myself.

shouldn''t have said how long I''ve actually been around, methinks

Our Goddess of Glitter and Lady Lorelei are correct. My comment was intended in the most favorable way Yssie.
