Hi,

New here so hello to all.

I'm confused. I've purchased a diamond using all the knowledge I've managed to accrue. I got en eye clean, colourless diamond with what I understand to be good proportions. Here's the spec:

GIA certified
1.51 carat round diamond 7.37 - 7.41 x 4.51 mm
e colour
excellent cut
si1

depth : 61.0%
table : 57.0%
crown angle: 33.0%
crown height: 13.5%
Pavilion angle: 41%
pavilion depth: 43%
gridle - thin to slightly thick
symmetry: excellent
Polish : very good

Although it's si1 there are no marks my eye can see and I tried it under magnification and still couldn't see any marks.

If there's any other info I've missed please let me know.

Putting this diamond in the HCA it returns excellent for light return, fire and scintillation and very good for spread - but I've read that a low HCA score under 1 is not good. I've found conflicting information about it. The diamond I've got looks great to me, which I know is the important thing but I want to know if I've made the right choice on paper?

Thanks

We recommend that all diamonds have an idealscope image to show if there is leakage. The HCA is just a screening tool and does not guarantee that a diamond that scores below 2 is top cut quality. It just means it is worth exploring further. It sounds like you think the diamond is beautiful in person, and that is important. Short of having an idealscope image, the only other thing you could do is compare it to a couple of AGS Ideal cut stones to see if you see any difference in performance in different lighting. Your stone is likely fine. It just depends on how particular you are to get one of the best of the GIA Ex stones.

Can we ask where you read that?

In some cases it can indicate a diamond better suited for earrings or a pendant than a ring due to obstruction issues.
This is not one of them.

I see it here from time to time, and must honestly say that although I see it said about some diamonds under a 1 on the HCA scale may not be "good," I can honestly say that I have never seen one that was not stunning.
To our OP since this diamond has already passed your "See it with my own eyes" test, I recommend that you continue to enjoy your beautiful diamond.

That test trumps all others when it comes to what YOUR EYES like and you should not now worry about some hypothetical problems that do not appear to apply to your diamond. Whether or not your diamond passes our paper test becomes a moot point once it has passed your eye test.
