Hi all,

My fiance and I are looking at diamonds for a 3-stone ring for me (he proposed with a placeholder ring so I could pick what I wanted!). I am looking at this 1.212 ct., D, VS1 Signature Ideal diamond from Blue Nile (I have it reserved, so it probably won''t show up on the website). I have purchased from other, more PS-oriented vendors in the past, but this particular diamond really spoke to me.

I ran the #s through HCA, and it came back with a score of 0.8, with "excellents" for all 4 factors -- which I''d never seen before, and was very excited about. However, I did come across a couple discussions about how "VG" on spread might actually be preferable to excellents in all 4 HCA categories. In particular, I saw some commentary regarding how the stone might appear a little dark close up.

I have stud earrings (G, VS1) that scored a .8 on the HCA, and I LOVE them. I have a good feeling about this diamond, but wanted to get more concrete input before we pull the trigger on it -- rather than just going by the specs and my gut feeling (it never hurts to ask!). So basically, if you see any red flags, PLEASE let me know!

also, I was thinking of having this set with .31 E, VS1 Signature Ideal diamonds. Please feel free to comment if you think that isn''t so good proportionally, or for any other reason!!

Specs are below. Thanks so much!!

I''m not an expert, but the diamond in my ring is similar. My GIA rounded numbers are 34 crown angle, 40.8 pavilion angle, 58% table, 75% lower girdle facets, 50% star length, 60.2% total depth. My stone looks very bright most of the time, but also gives off plenty of fire in the right lighting. From what I''ve read, 34/40.8 is an excellent angle combination, and your table size puts your diamond right in the ideal range too. Plus, it''s an AGS 0, so it''s been tested for light performance already and passed with flying colors.

So overall, I think your diamond sounds great. Especially since it "spoke" to you, buy it!

you have found what appears to be a very nice stone.
enjoy it

Looks to be a great diamond! Well spotted!

Hi everyone -- Thank you so much for the great feedback! I appreciate it!!

I have to say that the excitement of getting engaged, and also turning up what is hopefully the perfect diamond for my ring, in the space of a week is a great feeling!
