HCA--how important are the results

I have been comparing several diamonds from BGD, Infinity, and WF. Plugging in the percentages, angles, etc.

I got these results while looking at 1.2C-1.3C GSI1 RB on each site. I picked a few diamonds for each site. I know that I will need to do this on an individual basis when I narrow down my selection.

Infinity: 1.2 and 0.9
BGD: 1.4 and 1.1
WF: 1.4 1.6 and 1.8

Is this about what to expect? I read that these 3 are almost one in the same for superior cut, etc. Or is one brand generally better at passing this test? How important is the HCA test? Should I go for the lower figure, or is anything under 2.0 going to be awesome?

Thanks in advance!

Under 2.0 passes HCA.

Then you compare Idelscope pics.

I assume that the lower number is better though? With Idealscope I just want to look for as much red as possible correct?

And one more important tip to save you LOTS of time! You don't need to use the HCA at all on AGS Ideal cut stones because they have already been evaluated for light performance! So if you are looking at WF ACA's, BG Signature, (and probably Infinity since I know they are top cut quality but have not seen their grading reports), you do NOT need to use the HCA. They are all top cut quality and all you need to do is to decide on your specs and compare prices.

Anything between 0-2 on the HCA is equivalent (my understanding).
That is, 0.1 === 1.99.

And since many online stores show ASET images and idealscopes, then the HCA becomes a moot tool?

correct, HCA does not matter when you have idealscope/ASET. the HCA only uses 4 numbers to tell you about a diamond's performance while the idealscope/ASET is an actual picture of the diamond.

Anything under a 2 is fine. One of mine scored a .50 and I couldn't tell the difference between that and the other two that scored around 1.4ish (give or take a bit there - I don't recall the exact scores). The .50 had a slightly smaller table than the other two and THAT made the only difference in the way the diamond looked.
