Hey all,
I put the specs into the HCA on the diamond I am having WF send to my appraiser. It is a AGS diamond that scores a 1.1 on the HCA. The wierd thing, though, is where the X falls on (or should I say off) the grid:

hca.jpg

Why is the X mark falling there? Is there something in the angles and percentages of this diamond that is causing that?

Thanks for the help!

yeah, you didn't need to enter the culet.

see the * footnote on the hca page.

I just tried it and the "X" fell right in the sweet spot for me.

Maybe it was just a fluke?

Belle,
Thank you. Turns out that the HCA doesn''t work correctly in Firefox! Good to know!

Thanks for the help!

When I run those specs in the HCA (and not in Firefox) I get a result that shows the X outside of the AGS Ideal box. Is that correct? If the diamond is an AGS Ideal cut diamond, shouldn''t it fall within the AGS Ideal box on the HCA?

Thank you,
David

No wonder I can never see the "X"s!!!

Maybe Garry could put some sort of note out there to that effect...

Wonka,
I just ran it in Internet Explorer and it is showing me the following results... is this what you got?:

hca1.jpg

When I run the HCA using the Sarin report, I get the above results. When I run it using the angles from WF, it falls in the sweet spot:

Does that seem like it makes sense? Does it match the results you got?

Thanks for the help!!

cool. i didn''t even check to see if the .3 entered on the culet was the culprit, i just noticed that you had entered it. i''m sure that if the firefox issue is correctable, leonid is working on it.

Hi guys,

Positioning of the X-mark is using some dynamic HTML functions, which sometimes vary for different browsers and cause an error like this. I just checked it with IE6 and it works fine. However, with latest Firefox it is indeed way off although when it was developed it worked all right with Firefox. Gotta check it out.

Nevertheless, position of the X-mark on the pavilion-crown plot is just an illustration where your crown and pavilion angles are. Otherwise, it has nothing to do with the HCA calculations.

i put in the specs from your first post (minus the culet info) and got the square right smack dab in the box.

Belle, thank you...

When you did it, did you get ex/ex/ex/vg with a score of 1.3, or vg/ex/ex/vg with a score of 1.5? I just want to make sure I am getting the same results.

Thanks!

Hey David, it looks like you entered 40.1 PA in that try?

John beat me to it.

You guys are great!!! Thank you so much! Now everything makes a little more sense!!!

I guess operator error counts for part of the problem!

It is safer to use the Sarin report numbers in the HCA? I notice they are slightly different (.1 or so) than the numbers given by WF.

Thanks again, everyone...I really appreciate all the help!!

it is much safer to use the numbers from from wf, otherwise the diamond will explode unexpectedly from the margin of error difference that you will never see.

seriously...you have a beautiful diamond. i totally understand the preoccupation with the numbers, especially when the ring is not right in front of you but i will tell you...in the end...all that matters is what you are seeing. that can't be measured.

(for all intents and purposes, it is wise (safe?) to default to the numbers on the grading report if it is ags, or the sarin numbers if it is gia

Thanks, Belle,
OK, you're right...I am done! I am just going to wait to see the diamond for myself....I will drive myself (and everyone else on this forum) nuts if I keep playing with the numbers!!!!

I am very excited to see it and to compare it with the first one I got. I will be sure to post what I end up deciding once I see them both side-by-side tomorrow!

Thanks again!!!
