Are either of these worth considering? Which one is better? I am confused that they get excellent HCA scores but GIA has rated them both very good for cut. Or should I wait for an AGS 0 or GIA excellent? Thanks! (I really, really need your advice!)

Stone #1
1.41 ct.
H, VS1
Depth 60.3
Table 58
polish EX
Symmetry VG
Fl none
7.23 x 7.26 x 4.37 mm
GIA cut grade: very good (not sure how bad this is? vendor calls it ideal cut)
crown angle 34.5
pav angle 40.6
girdle- med faceted
price is around $10,400.
HCA all excellent, TVP .8 excellent

Stone #2
1.45ct.
H VS1
depth 62.5
table 57
pol EX
Sym VG
Fl none
7.17 x 7.20 x 4.49 mm
GIA cut grade VG
crown angle 35
pav angle 40.8
girdle- slightly thick-thick faceted (is the "thick" going to rule this one out?)
price @ $ 9600.
HCA (ex, ex, ex, vg, TVP 1.7 excellent)

ETA: Stone # 3 listed in post below!

well....

with only this information i would lean towards #2. it has angles that would potentially get top grades with both gia and ags.

I might want would price a G color, VS2 - just to see what''s the price difference (if any).

You''re paying for a VS1 but with a VS2 you won''t see any inclusions but might gain a better color for the same price.

Just a thought...

If there is a high consistency in stone number 1 (especially in the pavilion angle), than I would lean towards that stone.

It also has a better spread.

Live long,

I personally like #1 better. The spread is bigger for its weight but either looks like good candidates. Let us know what you decide!

Both scores sound like good news. Is the price difference between these two neglijable?

Is there more of a difference than the existing data suggests? (i.e. one may be H&A etc.)

Thank you all for your replies!

Number 1 is $800 more than number two (prices listed near the bottom of each list), but I would rather pay more for the better stone if it is indeed better. Plus, number 1 has the advantage of being from a place that does beautiful custom settings. Neither stone is labeled hearts and arrows. Both are from PriceScope vendors, though.

I want to stay as close to $10,000 as possible (but that is flexible) and as close to 1.5 cts. as possible, which means the 1.4 range in an H VS1, or I'd be going down to the 1.3 range in a G. I prefer VS1 because I don't like to see inclusions with a loupe, but I'm sure there would be some VS2's that a gemologist might find that would work because of the type and location of the inclusions. My diamond now is 1 ct. and SI2 (which we knew nothing about when we were 21!), and it bothers me. So I need a "Mind clean" and loupe-clean stone that is very near colorless. As you know, the 1.4 range is very hard to find.

I'd certainly be happy to see others that are similar!

I am almost postive number 1 is in-house. I don''t think all the PS vendors have all their stones in the database here. Thanks for checking Virginia!

Looks like you found two nice stones with potential in your size, clarity, and color range! If the first one is inhouse already and they have settings you like, then I would contact the vendor and have them eye ball it for you to see how they think it looks.

Both are likely very nice, but stone number 1 get''s my vote. I''m the proud owner of a larger tabled pet rock and it''s beautiful. If cut nicely and the proportions indicate it is, it will likely make it appear a little larger. Also my stone is GIA Very Good, not excellent. I can walk with pride any day into any Tiffany and know my ring will perform as nicely as any of their stones. As a matter of fact I was traveling last week and the elevator in my hotel had fantastic diamond lighting. A lady saw my ring, grabbed my hand and commented how stunning my stone was. Her rock was gorgeous as well, but her''s was a Tiffany (surprisingly she volunteered her''s was a Tiffany) and her stone was about the same size as mine and there was absolutely no visible difference in her pet and mine!!

Good Luck............

Rod, I believe you because I did strongly consider a beautiful 1.6 premium cut stone, and it is still on my list if these are not significantly better.

To complicate things, there is one more, but it is VS2!!!

Stone #3
1.44 ct.
H, VS2
depth 62.0
table 54
pol EX
sym EX
Fl none
7.23 x 7.28 X 4.5
GIA cut grade Excellent
crown angle 34.5
pav angle 40.8
girdle med. faceted
price @$9600.
HCA ex, ex, ex, vg, total 1.4 excellent

I am going to view #1 and #3 online tomorrow.

#3 is hearts and arrows, I see that on the certificate. Both of these stones have new (April 2006) certificates. They are not in-house. I wonder if I should price shop???

Hey I just dropped down from a VS1 to a VS2. Not because of price but because I loved the specs so take it from one picky eagle-eyed person it''s not a bad way to go. I couldn''t see nothing in mine & trust me I tried giving it the old eagle eye from every angle. If I got any closer it would have become a nose ring.:-)

Oh, that is encouraging to hear! The VS2 I listed sounds like an outstanding stone in every way other than the VS2, so it would be great if I can''t see inclusions.

Is there a thread on your new stone?

Unfortunately, I don''t have pics but I did get to see it loose at a local appraisers office. Took 6 darn months to find this stone & it''s a keeper. Just came across it sipping my morning coffee & called the vendor that afternoon. I arranged to see it the following week & presto it''s mine.

Of course, I put so much effort in finding the right stone that I neglected to even think of a setting

I know how stupid is that! Now I''m in the design phase so there''s no telling when this ring will be on my finger. When it''s here I''ll be sure to post it. So bottomline - it''s collecting dust in my vendors vault till I finish discussing the setting design. At the rate I''m going you''ll be on your third upgrade..

Also, my pet rock is VS2 and trust me, you couldn''t possibly see anything with your eyes. In fact, I couldn''t find anything with a loupe, but GIA said it was VS2. I figure why pay for clarity you can''t see. The value of diminishing returns is clearly demonstrated with diamonds. Just my .02..........

I like #3 out of those, #1 would be next if the pavilion was tight.
IS images would help

So how did it go? Are you talking about Dimend Scaasi with their Innerview session? I did that too. Pretty cool, eh?

Thank you all for your replies!

Yes, Wallermama, it was Dimend Scaasi and it was a neat thing to do. I think I''ll tell about it in a new post since it is a slight change of topic.
