Edit: not sure what happened to my title, supposed to say HCA 5.4 for GIA "excellent" stone with 41.6 pavilion ange - need help from experts!

Hi everyone, on Monday I will be receiving a 1.83 G SI1 for inspection. This stone is an "excellent" cut stone per GIA, but it looks like it falls under the steep/deep category and got a 5.4 HCA score. Can anyone plug the numbers into a DiamCalc to get a light image for me so I can better know what to look for when I see the stone? A jeweler I trust says that this stone was very bright and had lots of sparkle, and when I asked if he saw light leakage from under the table, said he did not see any dark areas in the facet pattern. It has been very difficult to find a stone in this size range with these specs -- is there any chance that this stone could perform very well given all the angles and facets HCA does not take into account? Darn not having access to an IdealScope. Thoughts??

Results from HCA:
Light Return Good
Fire Fair
Scintillation Fair
Spread or diameter for weight Very Good
Total Visual Performance 5.4 - Good - Only if price is your main criterion

Measurements: 7.83 - 7.92 x 4.91 mm
Depth: 62.3%
Table: 56%
Crown angle: 34.5°
Pavilion angle: 41.6°
Crown height: 15.5%
Pavilion depth: 44%
Girdle: Thin to medium, faceted
Star: 50%
Lower half: 80%
Culet: None
Symmetry: VG
Polish: VG

i wouldn''t even consider it with that pav angle coupled with the table/depth/crown.... but that''s just me. 5 on the HCA is a far cry from even a 2-3 scoring in which case i''d say well see it..but a 5?

Thanks for your thoughts Mara. I''ve been trying to get an appointment at SuperbCert to see what a super ideal looks like, but nobody has returned my two calls and two emails over the past couple weeks. I would love to take this diamond there and do a side-by-side. So painful a process.

if you are in NY then try visiting GOG over in long island....you can see lots of ideals against this stone there! and i would give SC another call to try to still get in there. see as much as you can before buying! good luck!

My understanding is that the NY diamond district has been on vacation. You might try back next week or the following week. Even GOG will be on vacation this coming week, and they will not be scheduling any diamond appointments until the following week.

Yuck.

Thanks for the Diam Calc image Garry! I attached it for people to see. Do you really think this will look that bad in real life? I have been lurking for a couple months now so I know how much stock people put in this, I''m just trying to stay optimistic. I recently posted "Two diamonds for inspection - HCA scores differ, hope they''re eye clean!" where I mentioned that in addition to this diamond, I also ordered another one so I can compare them side by side and see if I can see a difference between these two "excellent" cut stones. Hope at least one of them looks great and is eye clean by my standards, 2 inches away from my face...

It will look great if you carry it around and only look at it in a GIA Diamond Dock light

Well that depends....did you want to own a diamond that will look ''not that bad'' or are you looking for something that looks stunning?

That white ring in the table of the image you posted is leakage. It''s not a good thing.

It''s not just about ''putting stock'' in numbers...to me there''s a reason they are there. You can choose to scrutinize them or ignore them...it''s totally your call. But to me, they mean a lot and my eyes have concurred wholeheartedly.

And to be really frank, if GARRY says YUCK then I''d listen.
