Hello,

Just starting my adventure into the engagement ring world. I was sent a few examples of what she's looking for, here are the links:

Basically she likes that kind of look with the halo around the stone.

She says she likes radiant or cushion, but would that kind of halo work with a radiant? Is it me, or do most of the halos on radiants look more squarish? The halos around the cushion in the links above are a bit rounded, which she likes...

Basically I'm just very confused about which stone to go for, I'm flexible, and she is too, but she does want that kind of look.

Thanks!

I think all of the example links you gave are cushion cuts in rounded halos. You can put pretty much any shape stone in a rounded or squarish halo. One of my favorite settings is the Whiteflash 'Guinevere,' and it's made for a round stone, but the halo is more square: http://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/guinevere-solitaire-engagement-ring-180.htm

It sounds like your girlfriend wants a squarish halo but hasn't determined yet if she prefers a cushion or radiant for a center stone. Either shape is going to be trickier to shop for than a round brilliant since you cannot go by numbers alone when shopping for either a cushion or a radiant.

And, there are quite a few square shapes like the radiant, but with a different look (Princess of Hearts or Brian Gavin Diamond's Quadex, for example). I think your girlfriend will need to look at both radiants and cushions to decide what she wants, unless she has said she REALLY doesn't care, however, one of your examples is an antique-style cushion, which looks totally different than a radiant or even a modern cushion brilliant.

Edited for typos.

Yes, all of what I posted are cushions. And yes, she does want a squarish halo but not too square, which some of the radiant halos looked like. so i guess it doesn't really matter if it's a radiant or cushion? the halo can still be exactly the same?

i'm going to wholesalers to find the stone, so she won't be with me, that's the issue. i kinda have to decide on my own.

A radiant would work fine.

What's your budget. With a halo setting like that it's best to work backward from the setting costs to get budget for the stone.

My budget is max 10k for the entire ring.
