I thought that I had identified the stone I wanted and even put down some money for it. Today I was browing ps and found a similar stone that cost a bit more but seems to be better cut. Here are the two princesses

#1 (the one I put money down on)
.87 F VS1
5.35x5.19x3.83
Table 70
Depth 73.8
Polish Vg
Sym g
Girdle thn-thk (2,793)
#2
.89 E VS1
5.52x5.47x3.87
Table 68
Depth 70.1
Polish VG
Sym VG
Girdle thn-thk (3,476)

#2 is .02 carats bigger, one grade better in color, has a smaller table by 2%, has a shallower depth by 3.7%, has better symmetry, and if I''m not mistaken will look larger (5.52x5.47 vs 5.35x5.19). With that said, is it worth the 683 price difference? Will these differences make that much of a difference in the overall appearance of the stone? Should I go with #1 and use the extra money for the setting? Please help me out.

Well, depends on your budget and how tight it is. I always say that you have to set that FIRST and be strict that you don't go into debt or use money alotted for something else. if you can swing it, maybe #2 will make you happier, but if you ARE on the budget, #1 can be a perfectly lovely stone.

You will always find something better. I stopped looking after I got mine for a while, afraid I was going to find a D 2CT Radiant, but realized that enough was enough. We found our stone, and again, it's a symbol! But it's your call how to use that extra money...

Personally, if it were me I'd go for #2. The better symmetry and slightly larger spread would sway me in that direction. Of course, that's not taking into account the stone's actual appearance.

Aside the rather slight difference in size, there is no telling what those proportions would do to the appearance of the stone (brilliance that is).

It's nice hunting for diamonds

Seriously though, second thoughts are dangerous. If you have seen either, go with the one that "speaks to you". If you have seen neither, and they are at the same vendor, ask the vendor to give you a good idea of which is nicer, whiter, clearer, bigger, etc...

If not, it's a game of numbers and you have to decide how to spend your money... Good luck!
