Hi Everyone,

How much do you think it would cost to have a setting recreated, in the same metal? I love my e-ring setting, but there are a few flaws I''d like to have corrected.
I''m not sure if we''d have to go so extreme as to have it re-cast, or if we''d be able to just have the jeweler fix it....

Pic below....

Any advice would be greatly appreciated... thanks!!

I am sure it would be cheaper to have it corrected if possible. Did you have this setting custom made? If so, I think it would only cost the price of the metal (and maybe small labor charge) if they still have the mold that they already created. If they are starting from scratch, I''d estimate maybe $1000 plus the cost of the metal??
Good luck! What are the flaws?

Thanks for the response!

Unfortunately we didn''t have this custom made, my FI got it from the Jewelry Exchange in Woodbridge, NJ.

Well, the prongs aren''t set directly in the middle of the setting- they''re totally off center. They are also crooked, and one looks like it''s longer than the rest.
The milgraining and detail isn''t perfect, some of the petals on the flower detail are open at the ends, the center stone keeps rattling even though we''ve had it tightened twice. I''ve only had the ring for a little over a month.

I''m peeved mostly because I know what my FI spent on it... but I guess you get what you pay for.
Thanks!

Sorry you're having such trouble with the setting so early in your engagment! Don't feel badly about your fiance's choice (or $ spent) - most guys just don't know any better. They don't have a "fine eye" or have a clue what to look for in workmanship etc and many times don't appreciate how "paying more" actually GETS you more, when it comes to jewelry.

I know you say you love that setting ... but if money's an issue now, I'd say scrap it and get a nice solitaire setting you can "bling" up with an eternity band in the future. OR, get it reset in a stock antique style setting that you also love, but don't have to custom make. Why recreate something that'll have bad memories & frustration ANYWAY? No setting is that "awesome" IMHO.

BTW .. some of us who had total control of our e-ring settings, have some regrets/flaws etc & only have ourselves to blame! Look at how many times we P-scope ladies are re-setting and re-jiggering YEARS later. As you get older you realize NOTHING'S perfect and you only really get upset when your EXPECTATIONS aren't met. Keep realistic expectations, forgive yourself when things don't go as planned & try to maintain perspective. You have a great fiance who did his best to pick out something you'd like. You're not fully satisfied & now have the opportunity to get what you really want. Take it & run w/it!

ETA: Did someone whisper "halo" in your ear?

Ha!
Don''t you go putting ideas in my head... although I haven''t seen many princess cuts with halos... and halos are gorgeous...
lol...
I really do love my setting though, it''s beautiful.
I think we can get it fixed... and if they won''t we''ll look into other options.... I''d hate to give it up though- it''s so gorgeous.

That sounds really frustrating. I hope they can fix it. If not, maybe they can offer a refund since you have only had it a short time. I agree with the suggestion that (if money is a concern) to get a simple solitaire setting and if you want, bling it up with an eternity band .
But I hope you can get your ring fixed! I''d be especially concerned about the stone rattling! What metal is it? If it is 18K white, you might want to have the prongs redone in platinum, because the high K golds can tend to bend.
