Here is the ideal scope pic on a .54 I SI2 that I''m thinking of getting for an ering. In comparing it to the reference chart on the idealscope website, I can see that it does not match the pics labeled as excellent, but I am having a hard time telling whether it would fall into the good or very good category. More importantly, does it seem like it has any problems or will it face up with a lot of sparkle?

There appears to be under-table leakage consistent with somewhat deep angles. What did the seller tell you about the diamond? What are the proportions?

This stone will probably look nice, but many here would say you could do a lot better...

Ditto.

I would say ithat t is less than Very Good but when in doubt try also the Holloway Cut Advisor where you will need to use the details of the proportions.
If you are not sure how to use this, if you post the details of the proportions as suggested by AndyMN, there are many on the forum who could help you.

CUT quality is KING - it is the KEY to sparkle AND visual apparent size!
A well-cut diamond will LOOK bigger and sparkle more than a commercial or average cut larger carat diamond! Regulars to PS will likely have seen this comparison before (photo credit to Garry Holloway). The stone on the left is actually smaller carat weight than the one on the right , but it looks larger because it has the topmost cut quality and hence is returning light from edge-to-edge.

Ditto....But the vendor who has this diamond will be honest with you as to whether it is suitable for you or not.

It''s from Whiteflash.

I would stick to something in their Expert Selection or A Cut Above categories. Their ACA stones are beautiful. They seem to have a good selection in that size range. Don''t know if these fall in your price range but here are a few.

Thanks all, the reason that I have steared away from the ACA stones is that they seem to fall within two catagories: those below .5, which are well under $1000, and those that have broken the .5 threshold, for which the price jumps $200-300. The stone that I posted above is $815, and while I could go somewhat higher in price, I''m on a fairly tight budget. I do realize that a poorly cut stone will look small than a well cut stone, but I feel that, having seen 4.9mm diameter stones (the size of comparably priced ACAs) that they are just too small. The stone that I posted above is 5.28mm, which to me looks noticeably larger.
Just for reference, the holloway cut advisor scores the stone very good in all categories just based on its proportions, but I thought that the ideal scope was more reliable. Is this not true? I''m including the sarin report below.
What does everybody think, for the price is it good? Will the light leakage be so bad that a 4.9mm ACA will actually look larger?
Thanks for the help.

I''ll see your two ditto''s and raise you one.

Ask WF about it.

After seeing the Sarin numbers, it could be a brilliant diamond. One reason for that leakage in the 8 to 12 o’clock positions is the swing in pavilion angle. It indicates that one of the mains is 40.4, another is 41.4. Crown too, but pavilion is more important. For how it looks live I have to move "all in" on asking the seller again.

I would rank the Idealscope image as "good", but this is probably a bright and lively stone with an overall visual presentation of "very good". It has very good edge-to-edge brilliance with a nice full diameter. I bet you wouldn't even notice that moderate leakage under the table. It's not the technical perfection that many on this forum swear by, but I bet it looks terrific to the eye. Kind of like Jennifer Anniston with a slightly crooked nose. Definitely worth taking a look at, especially for the price.

My God, where''s the censors when you need them?

Garry, you''re out of control. You need to switch to coffee.

Ditto what the others have said about the stone. It should be generally pretty, but I''d personally keep looking. I would suggest calling up WF personally and tell them what you are looking for. Sometimes they have diamonds that aren''t in their inventory.

If they don''t have what you are looking for, jamesallen.com and goodoldgold.com also have a great selection of well-cut stones. Jamesallen.com probably has the best prices of the three, but their upgrade policy is more restrictive.

BTW: Welcome back Rich!!!! We missed you!!

You can do a lot better IMO. Get WF to find you a better performing stone that fit''s into your budget. A really well cut stone will sparkle like nothing else. I have an ACA and have only been wearing it for two weeks now, but people tell me everyday how sparkly my diamond is. The sparkliness is due to the cut quality. If you can stretch to an ACA or ES, then it would be worth it, if not, try to find a better cut stone.

Good luck
