OK...I feel a threadjack coming. First this made me think of a puppy I bought as a know-nothing college kid in New York City. I went into a store and bought an Irish Setter puppy who ended up having distemper. The store owners (later) asked why I didn't just 'bring him back'? (Maybe I wanted money back?) At any rate, the idea of 'bringing back' a sick animal I loved was unthinkable! All I wanted was to have him live!!! (Which he did. And, after that, I gave him to a nice couple in my hometown in Connecticut who could care for him better than I could in New York City!)

I used to be on many dog forums. Things got so nasty on one forum that I stopped posting. Everyone was backstabbing each other .. frauding each other ... being secret puppy mills .. selling sick puppies.
At any rate, I am wondering why I got attached to posting on diamond forums, first one then another, when diamonds are a very recent and relatively unimportant interest and dogs are a lifelong passion.
How did that happen? How did some of you other posters (like you, CharmyPoo) find your way to dog fora/forums? I wonder if I would find them too sad? Do other dog lovers frequent them?

Thank you for your thoughtful reply, Loves Vintage. Maybe I should look into dog fora/forums. I do not know if they are for me. Reading about animals often makes me too sad to function...which is why I try to avoid threads about pets here for as long as I can hold out! I used to refuse to read books about horses in elementary school or to watch movies about dogs as a child. I knew that Walt Disney was always going to kill any dog that he could and that any horse in a book was going to be whipped. I remember threatening (to my parents) all kind of dire things I would do to any teacher who tried to subject me to reading about cruelty to animals!

I belong to a greyhound forum. Some of the posters are a bit zany. I think that is the best way to describe them. I found the forum after adopting my first grey, through my dog walker at the time. She is also a 'greyhound lady'. I do not frequent the forum that often. The site is heavily moderated, but even the moderators can be a bit mean. I would not say it is too sad. There is a section to help owners whose pets have recently passed, which I do read often, because I cannot handle that level of sadness, but there are regular posters who read all of those posts and try to help people through the loss. There is a lost greyhound section, which has been tremendously useful in bringing lost greys home. I have participated in a few searches as a result of that forum. It is heartwarming to see a dog (that has been out for days or weeks or more) brought home as a result of volunteer searchers banding together.
It is a good place to go for training issues and for information on medical issues. Though, the pictures of all the lovely greyhounds is the best part, of course!

There is a certain wedding forum that does nothing but bully. I am too scared to even post on it, but lots of women fight on it all the time.
