I bet it cannot compare to the nastiness of the the old USENET fights on the alt. forums I used to frequent. Sometimes I became a target for reasons I couldn''t begin to fathom...possibly because someone was up late at night posting drunk. With no moderation and no rules, it was a free for all. Some of the posters were smart as all get out and very well-armed verbally, however! I would never have the strength to go back to the days of those fights, though!

Fights? Not honest ''fights'', with each side stating their case pretty effectively. But quite a few media outlet (news) website forums can get very ugly. People use language I wouldn''t use with a stranger; and the insults fly. I''ll only comment if someone posts something truly stupid or offensive. And some of their user names can be quite inappropriate.

How can you take anyone seriously who will use a slang sexual term as an ID?

Yup. I am ridiculously nice on these forums, because there is a level of control here. When there isn''t moderation though - or the moderation is lacking - I get totally out of hand. Usually because someone else jabs at me first, though, I am not an instigator or anything. But I don''t let anyone say whatever they want to me, either.

No, I''ll be the first to admit that I''m not the quickest with comebacks, and I''ll just get my a$$ handed to me, so I generally avoid conflict. This basically goes for all areas of my life, including public forums.

I''ve personally never been in any "arguments" outside of PS.

I belong to an MMA forum and it is awful there. If someone posts a picture of, lets say their girlfriend, people will photoshop the girl to look like a man, make her into an animal, they will morph her into different pictures to make her look like she''s a **** star, or whatever--basically, use your imagination...it gets out of control so quickly! Most of the time it''s hysterical (like tears running down your face funny) but the OP usually gets very upset and everything falls apart.

PS just has a different vibe.

And, this is the only forum I participate in because it has everything I need (diamonds, wedding, family, health, entertainment, etc.). I don''t think I''d find a better group of people anyway.

i''m not interested in arguing with people. i''m not trying to convert anyone to anything, nor am i looking to vent anger. so if i see things getting ugly anywhere, i just leave. i''m not afraid of a ''knock down drag out'' scenario - i just am supremely disinterested in it.

i only fight about the things i specifically care about. REALLY care about. none of those things refer to topics covered in public online forums. when i see people getting snarky or nasty on online forums i think to myself "dont you have anything better to do with your time?? how old are you - 6??" i cant imagine having SO MUCH emotional energy that you have it to burn with complete strangers. or being so angry that you wanted to get upset about someone''s political, sexual or religious persuasion.

sometimes it''s time to put your hands on the desk and step away from the computer.

i told a koi farmer that he was breeding low quality mutt koi,that he had an ego problem,too proud of his fish. he was asking $1500 for a fish on his website that most wouldn''t pay a $150. he then called me an A-hole.

most of the hobbyist knew that he bred junk fish but they kept their mouth shut.

btw; i''m only a member of five forums.

i can say ''diamonds are for spoiled women'' on koi forums,but not on PS.

They are. Now a DIAMOND (singular) is usually for traditional engagement ring and does not mean a woman is spoiled. But diamondS (Pl.) are definitely for spoiled women because who needs that many diamonds? I wanna be spoiled!!!
