Assuming the VVS1 is significantly more expensive, I would go with the GIA F/VS1 between the two, because the clarity is overkill.

Price aside, I would slightly favor the smaller table/slightly taller crown on the F/VVS1

Thanks Boston Jeff. They are about $3000 apart. What do you think about the magnified images? HCA are about the same between the two (1.5 for the VS1 and 1.6 for the VVS1). Without idealscope, and seeing the stones, it is so hard to "guess" on which one would be more brilliant and sparkle. Also, that VS1 seems to have a little more inclusion than most VS1 I have seen.

---Completely agree...

I think they both will be smashingly beautiful.

I''d just go for the VS1...no reason for not saving 3000...

I am w/Julie too! VS1 if I have to pick one but also, why not VS2?

I used the HCA and found that the score are almost the same: 1.5 for the VS1 and 1.6 for the VVS1.
I like to stay in the VVS but do not mind the VS1.
Both of them are either ideal cut (AGS0) or GIA excellent cut. I just don''t know which one would have better light return. What is confusing the most to me is that the VS1 has very nice magnified image.

Based on the numbers and the magnified images, could you guess which one will "perform" better in term of light returning?

ditto!

Does anyone have the diamcal that can be used to compare the measurements on these 2?

email JA and ask for the Ideal Scopes.

JulieN,

They don''t have it. They are not like WF and GOG!

They have magnified images then they should be able to get IS images for you. Call and ask for Jennifer (man I hope that is ok for me to say, I don''t want to get her in any trouble...but I can''t imagine incredible customer service and making sales would get anyone in trouble.) But she won''t be in until next week I think.

Also, you can''t really judge the H&A appearance based on that magnified image. that isn''t how H&A works, though it is kind of how Arrows works, sortof, but if one of them doesn''t have clear arrows it might be the angle making less light blockage when the picture was taken or something else, remember this is not a symmetry viewer, just a picture:).

but if you can''t get it a few things to consider would be that the crown and pavilion angles for the GIA are right on an AGS "sweet spot" with a 56% table.

Check out this thread Look at the information in the chart and in the links (which just got posted and I have yet to read through! headed to do that next!) The only thing left to question is the 75% stars rather than the 81% but I am pretty sure that the only thing that is going to do is give you a little less pinpoint lighting and a little broader colored flashes. But you can always post somewhere and ask JQ specifically about that cut combo with the 75% stars are within AGS 0 for a little more experienced and educated advice.

Thanks. I do not know much about all of the technicality of diamond:-). I thought the magnified images would serve the pupose. Will call them and ask for idealscope again. When you mentioned the crown and pavillion of GIA is right on the AGS "sweet spot" for AGS. Did you mean they are both compatible and the only question left is whether the 75% stars of the GIA would make that VS1 an AGS0? I posted a question for JQ, hopefully he will answer me. If not, do you think the VVS1 stone is better?

I think its a no-brainer for the VS1 but, I am just a normal consumer, and one much poorer and younger than yourself, so it is not an opinion that should *not (accidentally left that out) carry much weight.

Also, I am not sure that many people out there are going to be able to answer because your queries are so directly related to the diamond purchase rather than based on an understanding of diamond angles and light performance. But there are still a number of very intelligent experienced people, hopefully they can confirm that very small matter that is almost certainly a thumbs up.

(I would also want to know the color of the inclusion but that is getting even more anal about nothing, which most people would probably say about the whole disparity of cuts that is the main focus of concern here)

I love the VS1 too but wouldn''t want to save the 3K if it doesn''t perform better than the VVS. Judging this based on their numbers needs experience and knowlege (which I am totally lacking of). That was why I posted the message here hoping that experience and knowledgeable people such as yourself can help me to decide. For that, every opinion means so much to me and couldn''t appreciate more...

P.S. I don''t think I am richer or older than yourself:-)
