And, how reliable is the data?
It says the margin of error is +/- 2.4 points, but I agree, I'd want to see more information on the sample size and how this data was collected before I took it seriously.

It's a YouGov poll

I would trust the methodology, they are a non-partisan, international polling firm.
The CBS News national survey was conducted by YouGov using a nationally representative sample of 2,226 U.S. registered voters interviewed between August 19-21, 2020. The margin of error is ± 2.4 points.
I think it is unrealistic to expect that we can control a novel virus - asking a question about whether a level of deaths is 'acceptable' infers we have some control over how things pan out in the end.It could have been a lot higher but it could have been a lot lower how in the heck do you even define acceptable???
How was the question worded?
What kind of question is this?
Obviously, no deaths is the only acceptable answer.
Very sadly, with the pandemic, some deaths were unavoidable, but once we started to understand what was going on, compliance with the quarantine, distancing and PPE requirements should have been a no brainer so that the death numbers were significantly lower than they are.
And they would have been lower, had all leaders of our country stood up and supported the recommendations, in word and deed.
