Has Omicron changed your Christmas Plans?

I am fighting inter demons on this one....Christmas eve we are going to my sisters and her step son, wife and 2 daughters will be there and they are not vaccinated, Christmas day we are going to my husband's niece there will be quite a few unvaccinated people there, I am freaking terrified I will be honest, we are all vaccinated and have had our boosters, but we all have asthma and me and hubby have other health issues....I am so on the fence but I will be ridiculed by husband and families if I don't go...

Our plans are very modest...My sis and her family (we are all double-vaxxed, and my DH is triple-vaxxed due to chronic health issue) will come for Boxing Day dinner. Others in my family are traveling abroad ( :eek-2: ) which I wouldn't be comfortable doing right now.

Ugh! This is a tough spot to be in, @diamondringlover. Even your DH, with multiple health issues, would ridicule your decision if you choose not to attend?

Yes!!! Rise in cases here so we are now bringing food to hubby's family instead as his cousin is immunocompromised. I talked them out of coming over even though I was the one who invited them in the first place. I think it's just safer to see how Omicron plays out.

My parents and sister will still be over at Christmas.

No, as we’d already decided it would be just the 4 of us. DIL has a large family and said she’s happy to use us as her excuse not to have to do their traditional Christmas get together.

Yes. But they were modest already. Glad we got to travel for TG.

I really love the sound of your DIL!!! She sounds so sweet and you have an only child right?

Gives me hope that one day my son will marry someone nice too!!!!!

I should be at family Christmas pot luck family extravaganza right now... annnnd, I didn't go.
DH and DD went, while DS is working today.
I'm sure there were barbs slung a plenty and side eyes thrown, but I just don't give a s@!#. I didn't want to be around all those people, even though most are vaxxed.

It's looking highly likely here in the UK. Omicron is now the dominant strain. I had my booster today, DH had his last Tuesday & we were the last of the over 16's in my family to get boosters - we're all done. We are all due to gather at my mother's for lunch on Christmas day (my family & my 3 siblings families, so 4 families in total as mum is part of my sisters bubble) & we are all still planning to do that at the moment. We will ALL start doing daily lateral flow tests from tomorrow, as Covid has shown it can change it's status very quickly. Fingers crossed we will be OK. My oldest sister is currently recovering & due out of isolation on Tuesday.

There are rumours here that we will be put into a full & hard locmdown on January 27th. My school was told to plan & prep to go online in January, as was my daughters high school. We are supposed to be travelling to stay with the Out-Laws on the 27th until NYE. We are not holding our breath. We suspect we won't get to see them for the 2nd Christmas, but it is what it is & we will do whatever required to keep everyone safe.

"Christmas travel will increase the spread of the Omicron Covid-19 variant, even among the fully vaccinated, the top US infectious disease expert says.
"There's no doubt about this, [Omicron] has an extraordinary capability of spreading," Dr Anthony Fauci told NBC's Meet the Press programme on Sunday."

No change of plans, we are still going to dinner on Christmas Day unless someone gets sick then obviously things will change.

Yep. We cancelled.

We had a gathering with DHs family planned. At his sister's house. Though almost everyone is triple vaccinated ( bar children under 12, they're opening general vaccination for them on Wednesday here in France)21 and we would have tested everyone it felt risky. I said I don't want to do it.

Since we've learned that sister's DH is NOT vaccinated. And his parents are coming too.

Now sister has canceled altogether.

It's complicated, but all I'll say it's a big drama.

I'm not putting my asthmatic child in one room with someone who wasn't very upfront about his vaccination status and his family....
He never lied, but conveniently carried dishes around / looked after children etc when we were discussing vaccination dates when we last met (outside ) in summer.

D R A M A ...I don't need in my life. At least DH is managing all of the conversation with his family , so I only get his pretty matter- of- factly accounts.

My own family (sister and mom & I) have said from the beginning of the fifth wave that we won't do international travel , so sadly won't be seeing each other. Will do a live stream though...

Hang on in there @mellowyellowgirl, we thought it was never going to happen! Yes, we have one son, he’s taken his time, but at last he’s found his ‘one’, and I’m very lucky that she’s so lovely.

We’re living with them ATM while we’re waiting for our house to be completed, and she often says how much she’s going to miss us when we leave.

I say, don't go.
Get ridiculed.
Screw "em.

Who needs people like that in their life anyway?

I declined this year's holiday party at work.
I can't believe they even had one.

I responded to the email invite with ...
"No thanks. Not yet safe enough for me."

If it affects my job I don't care.
I rather like living and not contributing to the deaths of others.
If others can't recognize that, F 'em.

No change, because there are only the 3 of us and we are already under one roof and all vaccinated/boosted.
Our parents and my brother all passed away years ago.

My DH has one brother, but he and his wife and kids do their own thing on holidays. We wouldn't get together with them anyway, though, because she chooses not to get vaccinated.

We are watching and waiting. Puerto Rico had a 1,000% increase in a week of cases. This is astounding.

we arent going to PR, but it’s an example that Omicron spreads more rapidly.

we are all triple vaxxed but I have an anti vac sister and her family plus my brother, who lives with my mother.

my other sister from Ca and her family are in the decision making process and may cancel plans to come to my family of origin. Because of the non vaxers

My plans were changed more about my pup being ill than the current virus iteration.

Nope as I have already planned to spend it on my own as per usual.

DK :))

I’m sorry Arcadian and hope your puppy is doing better now.

Ugh.…We’re having my son and daughter-in-law, two grandchildren, my mom, and oldest son Chris here on Christmas Eve and day. I bought a bunch of quick antigen tests that the nursing home uses. They said they found them to be very accurate. My oldest that lives near me will get a PCR test on Tuesday..He will also take a home antigen rapid test on Friday..the day my middle son with family are coming. I’m going to my mom’s nursing home on Friday morning to give her a rapid test. My husband and I will do a rapid home test here on Friday morning. I won’t test David because I’m so close to him all day...I shave him, brush his teeth, etc....If I have it or not he would be the same. They didn’t say they would do a test..I told them that I have plenty of tests..I offered that they can do one when they get here. It was gentle nudge..but they didn’t respond to the test yet. My husband and I are over 65..My mom is 96…I’m holding my breath..I hope they get one.

Some, we were keeping it small to begin with. Just brunch at my mom's and popping by my Granny's for a bit. I will now take a rapid in the morning since I teach in public school and have the most exposure. I am also going to go to my Granny's without my husband and kids, just me. The less who go the better.

You are such a sweetheart. I would demand they take tests and ban anyone who didn't!!!! No Christmas food for you if no test!!!!

And you how how dodgy I am!!!! I'm always at some dodgy buffet! It really irks me when people don't try to mitigate other people's Covid fears though!!!!!

It's looking like we will cancel our Christmas Eve plans. Their 2nd grader is in a classroom that was notified this last Friday of an immediate exposure/a classmate was diagnosed. They also have a 5th grader. As far as I'm concerned, kids are a vector as well, and we all are familiar with the petri dish properties of the average elementary classroom. Our state has been or is a hot spot--not sure exactly our status at the moment. If this variant is as contagious as what I am reading....its just not worth the risk.

We had a family holiday gathering cancelled today due to two positive family members. Completely vaxxed and doing well but still….
@Arcadian hoping your pooch feels better. My Christmas Eve/Day is also going to be more affected by my pooch’s surgery (neutering) on the 23rd. It’ll be quiet here. Just hubby, MIL, Dd and me.
We did just go remote at work (school) due to the very high positivity rates though.

Thank you..I don’t have a backbone!
