Has apple iwatch taken over the market?

I don't wear a watch. I have an Ebel, but I haven't used it in over a year; I joke that I cannot be beholden to time.

I have noticed everyone in our circle (granted, a lot of medical professionals, so maybe there is a need here) has given up their traditional time pieces for the apple iwatch.

DH wanted to get me one for my birthday, but I passed saying, "Maybe Christmas"....

Then I read an article about how an iwatch saved a man's life by detecting a rapid increase in heart rate. The watch told him to go to the hospital, where he was found to have a potentially fatal pulmonary embolism. I'm rethinking getting one.

Has the iwatch made traditional watches like Rolex passé? :eek2:

I bought my husband one and he only wears it as his gimmick watch on the weekends *sigh.* He's kind of indifferent to it.

I’m trying to figure out if I can wear one instead of carrying my phone. Is this true? If so, then I will. I saw this beautiful brown wraparound leather band for the Apple Watch that I like. It pairs beautifully with the gold.

I also like some of the engraved bands.

Yes, as long as the phone is nearby (not sure of distance, but phone in purse is ok)

ETA: I think the brand new model works as a phone by itself

I have the newest iPhone, my second. Yes, I can go without my phone because it has cellular. I can see the weather, my appointments, my heart rate, how many steps I have taken and when I am not breathing. ( I tend to hold my breath without thinking about it). I love it!

Yeah. I think I might get one for the steps and the heart rate information etc..

I don't have the slightest interest in having an Apple Watch. I have owned several iPhones and like them well enough. In fact, I am a fan of all things apple. I just don't want the watch, and have another thing I have to replace for a newer model.
I just ordered two citizen eco drive watches today. I really wanted a Cartier automatic watch but since we have spent a whole lot of cash on a new truck and 5th wheel trailer in the last two months, I decided to spend way less.

I didn’t need the new watch but I’m tired of carrying a phone everywhere and this one has cellular so I can leave the phone at home.

Taken over the market?
WhoTF needs a watch these days?
The cell/smartphone on EVERYBODY! tells time at a glance.

I'd never buy an apple watch, not in a zillion billion trillion years!!!!!!!!!!! ... about the same time I'd buy a so called "smart"phone.:knockout::snooty:
I wouldn't buy an applewatch if it cost $10 ... and I suspect they cost a bit more that that.

I wear a proper watch with hands when travelling, as I find it easier to keep track of the time instead of taking the phone out every time.
Also for formal dressier occasions as I do not like having my wrists to be bare.
Would love to get another Ebel Beluga with more diaminds than the ones I have, however, that would have to wait.
DK :))

I find, that since I still steadfastly refuse to have my phone surgically attached to some portion of my anatomy, that an old fashioned watch suits my needs better than anything else. I also really just love watches. They are mechanical marvels still, and wrist jewelry with a function. I have a nice not-too-expensive diamond Accutron that is my daily wear one, and another not-expensive non-diamond one for changing it up a bit. The hubs loves his mechanicals, and watches are the only "jewelry" that he will wear.

Dear Kenny,

The Apple Watch is a tiny little smart phone that is worn on the wrist. :geek2:

I think you need one. I can tell by reading the post above that your heart rate rose significantly. An Apple Watch could monitor that for you.

A real man will only wear mechanical watches...;)2DSCN0656.JPG

I'm not considering an Apple watch until they put diamonds on it.

Right now I'm mad at Apple. I left my watch home when I went away on a long trip and when I got back it would not charge.
For $200 Apple will repair it.
For me it was a gimmick and I got tired of charging it or running out of charge mid-day.
So it was a fun toy while it lasted.
