I have rosetta stone for english, french, chinese and spanish. The first 6 months I was studing a lot. I learned some chinese, I refreshed my french and my DH started studing spanish. The only problem is that after 6 months we lost interest and I have not used it for about a year. Now my DH is taking spanish classes at school.
It''s really good if you want to learn. You just need to be constant.
I''ve tried both Rosetta Stone and the Pimsleur series, I found that Pimsleur made much more sense and I retained much more information. Rosetta Stone quickly got boring for me with it''s "show a picture, repeat the word" approach, while Pimsleur was quite interesting. The fact that because Pimsleur is mostly audio-based means you can do a lesson in your car, or on the bus, anywhere you have your mp3 player or stereo. I like the way Pimsleur starts with a complete conversation spoken by naitive speakers of the language, and then breaks it down so you can learn each part. I followed their advice and did only 1 lesson per day, and I did the full Hindi course. It''s been over a year now, and I can still remember it quite well even though I don''t use Hindi in my day-to-day routine.
I will be committed because I really want to learn. I loved speaking french when I was younger. It seemed to come very naturally to me. I bet my ancestors were french - I am a neighbour of France after all
I will check out Pimsleur too.
Thanks everyone!
