My hair is fried. Fried fried fried. Like crispy wonton strips-fried. Has anyone used Wen or another product that helps hair get healthy again? Back when I had blonde hair, it was easy to dust on baby powder or dry shampoo to suck up any oils, so that I can go about 3-4 days without washing my hair (which = blow drying it and then styling it less). Now that I'm brunette again, I'm back at washing my hair every 1-2 days. With summer approaching, it'll be daily for sure. The oil weighs my hair down at the roots, and is not very pretty. I have tried those dark colored dry shampoos, but they still make my hair look "dusty".

I had a customer tell me that she uses Wen, and that she only does the "conditioning only" once a week. She never shampoos anymore and her hair is healthy. But she's also friends with the Wen owner or something, so she might be biased. Besides, who randomly brings up a hair product while they're patients at a hospital? I want to trust her recommendation, but I want to know if anyone here personally has tried it. Or if anyone here has a recommendation for a miracle hair product.

I want my hair to stop breaking at the ends! It's so damaged that it breaks off all the time. My bathroom floor has little pieces of 1/2-3 inch pieces of hair that's broken off from me brushing my hair. I want to be able to grow my hair out, long and luscious looking.. I'm hoping someone here can chime in with a recommendation or two!

I have long hair. Like past by butt long. I cut it about a year ago to just past my shoulder blades. I notice that it grows fastest and most healthy when I uses organic hair products. I use Avalon Organics shampoo and conditioner. I don't use any other hair products. Maybe hair spray once in a blue moon. I usually blow dry and sometimes flat iron or curl.
I have some bleached highlights and even so my hair is really healthy and no split ends.
I also only use boars bristle brush or a comb made out of horn because horn is keratin and the same substance as your hair and nails. It decreases static and breakage.
I'll see if I can find the site with all the long hair growing tips.

Here's the site where I found lots of good info and tips. Ive never actually bought any of their products but I've applied the principles to my own hair care. I just researched and bought a good organic shampoo and bought the combs on eBay.

I would try incorporating a protein treatment once a week or so. I use Joico Kpak Reconstructor Deep-Penetrating Treatment and after a hydrating mask (very important, the Kpak is not a conditioner!). It makes my hair so soft and strong feeling.

I've heard good things about Kerastase but no one in my town sells it!!

Re: Has anyone tried Wen (for hair)? Or other hair product r

I think there have been a few other threads about Wen...I use it and like it!

SweetAsscher : WOW past your butt? I've never had it past my butt, even when I was younger! My hair just stops growing after it reaches just near the chest area. And from the length between my shoulder and the tips, it's very straggly and thin and just damaged. I don't remember it ever being NOT this way, even before I was dying my hair or anything like that. And you grew that all in ONE YEAR? That's amazing.. hair on steroids! Thanks for the tip about the comb. I looked it up on ebay and they're just a few cents each. Are those ones okay to use? Thanks for the website, I'll check it out.

Shimmer - I do use a protein. In fact, I never use normal conditioner anymore. I've been trading off between the sulfur-free deep conditioning Everpure mask by Loreal, a deep keratin treatment by Brazilian Tech (Sally's brand), K-Pak by Joico, Millennia Mud, and the Ion brand from Sally's protein treatment. I have so many different products that I don't even know which one is better than the next since I use them all! They all make my hair feel much stronger and softer immediately after rinsing them off, but I still get breakage. I've been using K-Pak since I was in middle school. That's how long that my hair's been craptastic :knockout:

Thanks, slg. Can you comment on WHY you like it? Has it helped it grow faster, prevent breaking or ? And which scent did you go with? I see they have a limited edition green tea scent. Almond mint sounds yummy too. Do you buy any of the products besides the cleanser?

I might just sign up for the Wen. I'm getting so annoyed with my hair. I listened to people when they said you have to keep cutting the split ends to prevent further breakage, and then I'd get stuck with shorter hair. By the time it slowly grows out, it's all damaged again. Even my hair stylist/cutter mentioned I have the slowest growing hair she's ever seen. While I was getting highlights, I was able to put off getting touch ups for 3 months! My hair breaks faster than it grows ;(

I didn't have breakage before? My hair feels good and seems healthy (although I have fine hair...but that's another story). I just use the cleanser, and my favorites are sweet almond mint, pomegranate, and lavender.

Yep as long as its horn and not plastic then it should work fine. The trick is to not over dry out your hair with whatever shampoo you use. By using natural horn and boars bristle brush you use your own natural scalp oils to moisturizer your hair and stimulate circulation for the scalp.

Re: Has anyone tried Wen (for hair)? Or other hair product r

Yes I sometimes use Wen and like it. I tend to switch back and forth using a regular sulphate free shampoo ( with no junk in it) to using Wen when I need it.

Re: Has anyone tried Wen (for hair)? Or other hair product r

I tried Wen for about a month and found that it really dried out my hair (the opposite of what you're looking for). It stripped my hair of natural oils.

Re: Has anyone tried Wen (for hair)? Or other hair product r

I love love love the Damage Remedy line from Aveda. I can't wash it every day, and frequently can go three days between (as long as I'm not working out/getting super sweaty/etc). My hair was past my bra strap until a few weeks ago when I chopped off 5 inches.

The tricks for me are:
1. No highlights! Those are super damaging. My stylist refused to do them anymore because I could see where they were causing those break spots. The last time I had my hair highlighted was a year ago, and you can still see those lighter streaks down toward the end of my hair and *shocker* those are the spots where most of my breakage is. I just color my own hair these days, using Garnier Nutrise (which I may have spelled wrong???). My stylist highly recommended that one and it seems to work well.

2. Good nutrition. My hair used to grow so slowly. About two years ago I decided to start eating better to lose weight. And guess what? My hair started growing twice as fast. Now I get annoyed with how fast it grows. Same goes with my fingernails. I had read this makes a big difference and I guess it did!

3. I use the Damage Remedy line from Aveda. The shampoo and conditioner (I'll swap that out for the Dry Remedy occasionally). I use the weekly Damage Remedy treatment in the shower, and I use the daily leave-in. This was life changing for my hair (hair changing???).

4. I limit heat styling. Sometimes I'll blowdry my hair on low heat, and not to the point where it is absolutely dry. I just dry it to the point where it is a bit damp still, then let it dry the rest of the way. If for whatever reason I feel the need to flat iron, I use Perfect 10 spray liberally on each section before ironing it.

5. Throw away hair elastics - they cause so much damage! I love having my hair up, so I twist it out of the way and clip it. And I'll ditto what someone else said. Throw away your brush. I only ever use wide tooth combs now and it makes all the difference.

Re: Has anyone tried Wen (for hair)? Or other hair product r

You need a major cut it sounds like. Fried crispy is not gonna be totally recoverable, and it would help overall probably. And the longer you go between trims, the more damage "spreads" up your shaft. Even if you're growing it out, you need to get a trim every 2-3 months, jsut to get the damaged ends off. You probably need a significant trim. I cut 8" off my hair last year that was overly highlighted just frayed and dry and gross, I didn't want to trim it because I was growing it back out. It didn't even look like I cut any off lengthwise, but it looked MUCH healthier because the ends were so bad.

I have used WEN and it was HORRIBLE for my color, and it accelerated "shedding" so much. My hair felt super thin and greasy and coated from it. It destroyed my red, almost as bad as pureology did.

The best product I have found for my hair when I have over highlighted it is a good trim, then Joico K-Pac Reconstructor, followed by Paul MItchell Hair Repair and a creamy leave in of some kind. I also don't shampoo every day anyway, and on the skip days use a thin conditioner like Suave or White Rain on wet hair, "lather it" and rinse and then Im good for shampooing the next day or so.

Re: Has anyone tried Wen (for hair)? Or other hair product r

Thanks for all the replies ladies.

I checked out that longhairs website and its got so much tips, but in the most messiest writing style ever. I didn't understand if somethings were good or were bad. But I did come out with a few tips.

I've already ordered the Wen so I'll be waiting for that to come in. I hope I don't have sonnyjane's results !! I just have to remember to cancel that darn monthly subscription!
And I've ordered the horn wide tooth comb.

Thanks EricaR, I *do* need to eat better, but being a college student, living in a bedroom out of a house = just a microwave! Haha, so it's been those darn HealthyChoice and the like frozen foods for me if I'm not eating out. I know they're horribly unhealthy with all that excess sodium.. :knockout: But I've started taking biotin tablets I purchased from WholeFoods. I've noticed my nails growing a little bit longer than usual. But I can't tell the difference in my hair :/

Oh, and I forgot to add from the previous entry going over my hair products: I also use 100% organic argan oil. After I found out the branded Moroccan Oil that everyone raves about includes those 'cones, and only contains a small % of the real oil, I tossed it and purchased the 100% version. It feels so good on! But it's a tiny little bottle for $30 so I use it extremely sparingly. I just put a quarter-sized drop in my palm and only work it into the very ends of my hair.

I hope this switch to wide-tooth combs instead of brushes, and the new Wen I just ordered will work. I'm just trying to find my darn miracle in a bottle. I used a wide-tooth plastic comb this morning, and this is just a tiny portion of the hair that broke off. There's a bunch of those less-than-an-inch breaks :/ It's like mother natures giving me free hair trims on a daily basis or something.

Ame, I now it 'grows' up the shaft! ahh. I just can't bear to cut it. My hair FINALLY reached my bra-strap area, regardless of how straggly, after 2 1/2 years of cutting it to just-passed shoulder length area. And my hair, though dry feeling and crunchy, has actually a lot of non-split ends. It seems most of my hair that's breaking off is from the nape of my neck-area and those face faming, side of the head/ front of the T-split (if you split a horizontal line near the headband area) section. I probably always over-did those sections while straightening years ago since those are the face-framing pieces, and the nape hair are the longest. I'd try to straighten it out flat to make it appear longer.

I am overdue for a haircut, though. I am just. Dreading it! And trying to put it off as long as I can. My layers have long grown out and no longer layer-y.

one more question: How do you wear your hair to sleep? Sometimes I feel like I *have to* wash my hair in the morning, even though it hasn't been a 2nd or 3rd day yet, because my hair took on the shape of craziness from moving around while sleeping. I sort of sleep in all crazy directions, so pigtails or ponytails bother me. And the crease it leaves behind is unsightly as well, so I end up straightening it out with a flat iron. I tried putting my hair into a french braid so at least I'd wake up with some wavy hair, but it always ends up looking like crazy bed head as pieces of my hair fall out from moving in my sleep. I'm thinking I could prevent a lot of breakage if I don't leave my hair "as is" while sleeping.. I just don't know how to do it!

OH OH!!! Kelpie has something magical she uses. Lemme bug her to post it.

Re: Has anyone tried Wen (for hair)? Or other hair product r

Phytophanere supplements are pricey but they DO work miracles where other hair oriented vitamin blends have done nothing. My hair used to feel fried without processing. The first growth spurt I got with these was .75 inches a week for several months and really healthy. The growth has tapered off some but it's still healthier than it's ever been. I also like the agadir argan oil, I know it's not 100% argan oil but the main ingredient, dimethicone (in whatever product), has always been somewhat of a life saver for my hair and this product makes my hair feel soft and moisturized without any greasy ick. I have a bottle of pure argan oil and prefer the blended product over it.

ETA- The phytojoba shampoo and mask are also amazing so those 4 products mentioned have finally given me the hair I want. I used to be a product ho, but I finally got it perfected and just down to 4.

Re: Has anyone tried Wen (for hair)? Or other hair product r

Ah thanks Kelpie! Magical? 3/4 an inch in a WEEK? Oh god I'm happy if mine grows that in months.

I'll purchase tonight when I get on a secure internet connection back home. How many pills come in one bottle? I think I'm missing that part of the info from that link.. It doesn't state anywhere how many it contains just how many to take!

Re: Has anyone tried Wen (for hair)? Or other hair product r

Yeah, I'm not kidding! The bottle I linked has 120 pills (beware of smaller pricier per pill bottles) and you take two pills a day so it lasts 2 months. It hasn't done a thing for my brittle nails but my hair grows and grows (legs too, be warned :x )

Re: Has anyone tried Wen (for hair)? Or other hair product r

Oh, I grew another row of top eyelashes too, kind of a weird side effect but not undesirable. I don't have a unibrow or anything so i think the pills are a win. :twirl:

I wash my hair at night and it's usually wet when I go to bed. But I don't "restrain it". I sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase most nights, and if I pull it up at all, its with a clip on top of my head which wouldn't be too big of a problem.

I get knots in the nape of my hair too, and I have been known to just cut or RIP the knot right above the knot right out.

But you have GOT to get a cut, I know you want the length but the longer you leave it and the longer you go without a cut the worse it's going to get.

I took those PhytoPhanere pills for 6 months and saw no difference, but maybe the fresh hair on top benefitted?

Re: Has anyone tried Wen (for hair)? Or other hair product r

WEN gets a bad rap on the internet by former users, even those who said they initially loved it. There are some reports of hair loss.

I love Nexxus shampoo. Pureology is also good, but has a tendency to be too conditioning.

My issue with pureology isnt the conditioning, it literally stripped the red right out in one use.

Re: Has anyone tried Wen (for hair)? Or other hair product r

I would try the Ojon treatment product. It is an solid that you rub in your hands till it gets an oily consistency and then apply it to your hair. It is $33.00 at Sephora in the large jar and that should last about a year with once a week treatments. Initially, apply it every other day. You will see results right away. I don't sleep in it, but apply it to my hair in the morning and use a blow dryer on it for 5 minutes and leave it on for about an hour. I have had great results from it.

The great thing is, if you didn't like it, you could return it to Sephora and be out nothing. Give yourself a few treatments and see how your hair does.
