...and if you have: do you have any regrets? what made you decide to do it?

No trader here, but one thing to consider is that the same carat weight in a cushion will be slightly smaller than a round brilliant.

I love cushion cuts, but I appreciate a nice round also. I vote for having one of each

I did. I bought a 1.5 carat round a couple of years ago. I had the hardest time deciding on a setting. I have loved cushions since I first discovered them but went with the round b/c I was able to get it at a great price. I just never felt content. I eventually traded it back and ended up getting a cushion. No regrets whatsoever. I love my stone and my ring.

I know what you mean about the size issue-I have been researching different carat weights, and l:w ratios and I would definately make sure that the size was close to my RB.

I wish I could have both-that would solve my dilemma!

Thanks Mrs. S-I was hoping you would reply!! I have that exact feeling about being content. I have a beautiful RB, but before I purchased it I was torn between the two cuts. I tried on both, loved both-but chose the RB. I was recently in Manhattan (went to see The Little Mermaid) and of course while I was in the neighborhood I stopped by the diamond district to oogle the diamonds in the window...when I saw a beautiful solitare cushion in a Leon type seting with split claw prongs and my heart went pitter patter. I went right in and asked to try it on, (I usually just look as I am a bit intimidated in the big Diamond District) and I fell in love!!! I have been thinking about a trade in since then!!!

I am happy to hear that you have no regrets!! I love your ring and it looks beautiful on your hand.

I did.

I like rounds on other people but not on me. I don''t care for the precise/predictable patterning in a round.

I have a lovely cushion now. No regrets at all.

Best wishes.

Thanks sonomacounty! I appreciate your input. It seems as if you and Mrs. S had the same feelings that I am having now-and I am glad you have no regrets.

How long did you have your RB before you traded it? Any pics?

Thanks sonomacounty!

Oh sure.

I've had my Mom's rb for about 10 yrs. now. I inherited it, will never give it up. It's in an old antique setting and that helps spice it up a bit.

More recently had purchased a h&a rb solitiare. I had that for a month but knew it was way wrong within two days. I traded in for a cushion in about a month. The rb bothered me, it really did. To me, such symmetry doesn't work. Yes, I know they have the best optics and all that but I've learned that I need a shape I love, too.

My cushion can be seen here, if you wish:

Then click on this one:

"For PS's Chrono. In this comparison we'll be looking at a 1.28ct H&A Round alongside a 1.45ct Princess of Hearts and lastly a 1.02ct F SI1 Cushion all handpicked by your friendly neighborhood Rhino."

It's the last one, the 1.02. I love how it's pattern of flash & fire is not as predictable.

---

Rounds have great optics, which is why I can appreciate them on others but it's not me.

I've come to think this is a good idea - buy a cz round, about the size you'd get in a real stone, and wear it for awhile. While it won't perform like a real diamond, see if you can handle the shape. (Unfortunately, I don't think you can find a cz cushion that is similar enough to a real cushion to try out like that.)

---

Sorry I don't have any photos, otherwise. I don't have a digital camera that does macro.

Are you going to buy from somewhere that has a trade in/up policy? I'm so glad I did. Do you prefer the chunky cushions or just the medium facet size ones?

The rounds do face up a bit bigger, which I had thought was important to me but now I realize I'd rather even have to spend a bit more to go slightly larger and still have the shape I want.

I'll check back to see if you need anything more.

Best wishes.

Oh, and I read somewhere that a cushion that is a touch rectangular as opposed to very square will look less like a round. I think that's true. Mine is a 1.7 % l/w ratio, which is just at the edge of the "square", heading towards rectangle.

i know a few people who have traded their rb''s for a cushion and dont regret it...

the only issue that might come up is the sizing... if you were to take say a 1.6 rb... visually it would like the same size as a 2ct cushion. also the trade in values vary more on cushions vs. rb

overall i think cushions are great and stand out more... too many people nowadays are carrying rb and princess which is getting a bit boring, but thats just my opinion lol
