I'm not on twitter, but I heard about this.
For our narcissistic #1 child, obsessed with twitter likes, this sounds brilliant ...

"You can still stop your impeachment from happening, Democratic Coalition co-founder Scott Dworkin tweeted.
"All you have to do is resign."

"And I bet if you tweeted out your resignation, it would be the most shared tweet of all time," Dworkin goaded.
"Wouldn't that be worth it?
Think of all the retweets and likes.
Do it," he said.

I'm no expert on US political process, but I believe the Vice President is the next in line if Trump resigns or is removed from office.
The vote from the house of reps is to decide whether or not to send Trump to trial in front of the Senate, whom also needs a 2/3 majority vote to convict and remove him from office - something that seems highly unlikely with a majority GOP senate.

As someone watching from the other side of the planet, it makes me wonder what the Democrat's goal with impeachment was when it seems to be a fruitless endeavour at best

Correct.

When a democratic president does wrong, as in Clinton, I support impeachment.
To me it's not political, but unfortunately to the politicians on both sides of the aisle, it is. :nono:
Only judges appointed for life can be truly impartial.

Bu standing up for what's right, by pointing out what's wrong, is never fruitless.
It sends an important message into the future.

Kenny, I agree. Impeachment and removal will send a message of what is acceptable and not acceptable for a president to do. This crosses party lines. Of course impeachment is a political process. But then the DOJ ruling that sitting presidents should not/cannot be prosecuted for crimes while sitting, means the only remedy we have is the political process of impeachment. I don't think impeachment process should be taken lightly. It is a situation of last resort.

I think impeachment with removal sends one message, the important one.
Impeachment without removal sends the same message, but also another message.
That second message is senators (who vote on the removal) care more about getting reelected than doing what's right.

Our Constitution entrusts this 2-step process to the House and then the Senate.
Clearly this was not well thought out.
(Of course the partisan shit hole that America has become could never have been envisioned by our founding humans).
Our constitution, should be amended.

IMO both the House and Senate should participate equally in step one, the gathering of evidence.
Step 2, the trial, should be held in a real court of law because only judges appointed for life can be impartial.
Perhaps the Supreme Court should hold the trial, not the Senate which will always be controlled by one political party.
