An Arrow Viewer is advertised to see the arrows pattern in mounted diamonds. Has anyone tried it? Can an ideal scope show the arrows pattern just as well as the Arrow Viewer?

They say: "This scope allows you to view the Arrows of your new Ideal Cut diamond when it is mounted and on your finger. If you have purchased a loose stone, you can also view the Hearts."

Conclusion? A H&A viewer with a slightly different, more accesssible presentation. Since there is no standardized 'scope, this is just as good as any.

There seems to be some dillema about those harts: either you see them or you get the diamond ready-set (with the seller's responsability for getting the stone in holder). This seems to be the beginning of an answer...

We sell a $12 H&A viewer that works as well as any I have seen, even ones costing ten times as much. You can use it to see arrows in a mounted diamond. I am not sure why you'd want to do this, but we do have these little scopes available for anyone who'd like one at a fair price.

I purchased David Atlas' H & A viewer a while ago. I also have Whiteflash's H & A viewer that they include with their "A Cut Above" diamonds, when purchased. I also have the beginner's Idealscope. They all work well. The Idealscope relies a bit more on the lighting from behind, or underneath the diamond to give you the view of the arrows. This is why Garry sells the kit that comes with a portable backlight for this purpose. It is not really meant as a H & A viewer, it's just that you see the arrows when checking the cut quality and leakage of the diamond. You will still be able to see the arrows through the Idealscope, I just don't think the view is as crisp or provides as much contrast. I'd say if you are viewing a loose diamond, using any of those three will be fine, provided you have a backlight source for the Idealscope. If viewing a mounted diamond, you'll be better off with one of the H & A viewers. David Atlas' seems to be a little easier to use on a mounted diamond, but either will perform well.........in my opinion! I don't know if Whiteflash sells theirs separately or only includes them with their ACA diamonds. You might want to ask them. $12 for David's is a great price.

I am a little confused. Just bought an Idealscope from you ($25 plus S&H), now you talk about a smaller arrows viewers for $12. The Ideascope is pretty small in my book! Please advise.

Also, used the Idealscope on my fiance's ring which is mounted, and you do need a lot of light to see "all" the arrows, with dim lighting you can only make out 1 or 2 of them.

Some Vendors include the H&A viewer as part of your purchase and some don't. As mentioned before, White Flash includes the H&A viewer with the purchase of an A Cut Above diamond.

There are some mounted jewelry pieces (family jewelry) that I was curious if they would show any arrows pattern. I don't own any scopes, so when I saw the ad for the Arrow Viewer, I was wondering if it was worth trying. I have no immediate plans to buy an H&A diamond, so it could be a long time before I would ever get a free viewer with a diamond purchase.

For $12 though, that's a decent price for something I am curious about. The lighting suggestions are helpful. Thanks!

Arrows will show you the stones symmetry - but nothing about its ability to return light.
There are bad symmetry stones with no star that return more light than some (about 2/3rds are good) H&A's stones.

What do you want to achieve?
An ideal-scope lets you judge light return and also the symmetry as a free side effect

I am curious to know a little more about the diamonds (couple of pairs of earrings and a few rings that contain round diamonds -> I think mostly 1ct or less a piece). We don't know if any of them are H&A (probably not), but they may contain a few arrows.

I have considered buying a scope, so any info is helpful regarding which ones work best for particular situations.

I thought $39 sounded a little high for an arrow viewer, so it's good to know there are other choices that are either less $$ or do additional things besides showing arrows.

I haven't made up my mind yet, though.

There's a good chance I may be looking for an H&A sometime in the next year or two, so maybe I should just be patient and check the stones out then.

Where can I find an H&A viewer for $12?

Stanley
