Yes, this is the store. I am surprise too...but also stumped. I don''t think they''d risk their reputation...but like you said, stranger things have happened. The stones are 1o pointers...so not big. I''m going to do my best to get this solved as quickly as possible.Date: 7/30/2009 6:06:40 PM

Italia, you took them to DG of Naperville, right? And dealt with Kevin? Very surprising to hear this since you''ve described having such a great relationship with them in the past. I seriously doubt a jeweler would risk his/her reputation over melee stones, but hey, stranger things and all that...if you''re unsatisfied you need to go back to the store and work towards a resolution with Kevin, imo. Hope you get the issue sorted out!
The ring has never been exposed to hair color, and the diamonds were perfect when I returned the ring--they weren''t brown.Date: 7/30/2009 6:07:44 PM

Okay a couple of questions.
Do you wear your ring when you are doing hair? or am I remembering wrong about you doing hair? sorry if I am. Maybe it is the dye?
Also, I doubt they would do that, how big are these diamonds that are brown? It could be possible what you may be implying but really they sound concerned and to keep it for you and soak it. I would wait and see what happens.
I don''t think they swapped the stones for profit...but maybe there was an accident with my stones, and these were available. I know that my rings are worked on off site by a private jewelry maker...so this could have potentially nothing to do with the store and everything to do with the 3rd party.Date: 7/30/2009 6:09:03 PM

How large are the stones in your wedding band? I could see a jeweler swapping out a fairly large stone, but not smaller ones... I guess you need to wait to see what happens when you go pick up the ring the next time. But, yes, if there''s still a problem with your stones, you shouldn''t take the ring home until you''re happy.
I will ask for this if the problem is still there tomorrow. Thank you!Date: 7/30/2009 6:17:26 PM

Have them put it in an acid bath... It will take care of it no problem. Acid sounds scary, but diamonds are fine with this method... Trust me, I had one melee that turned brown, I have a professional US, and soaked the heck out of it, but my jeweler did a bath and voila, clean stone... No clue what the heck I had gotten behind the stone, I barely wear my rings and am very careful with them....
Are they still open now? I would totally call the store, and ask them if the problem has been resolved, and if it hasn't then proceed with your request per Kaleigh's suggestion.Date: 7/30/2009 6:27:03 PM

They weren''t going to soak the ring until tonight, after the store closes. They were going to soak it overnight in a clean bath. If that doesn''t it solve it by morning, I will ask that they please do the acid bath. If the acid bath still doesnt work, I will ask for the ring stone to be removed and cleaned seperately. If that doesn''t workDate: 7/30/2009 6:28:32 PM

I have heard of that happening, too, FDL. When I worked in jewelry, the previous owner of the store I worked for did a princess-cut/invisible set piece for that rapper DMX. The bench guy used *glue* and old DMX came back pretty upset when his diamonds started falling out. Of course, the owner and jeweler were no longer there and my former employer ended up re-doing the whole piece for him. There are definitely jewelers out there who will cut corners. Hopefully Italia''s jeweler isn''t one of them.Date: 7/30/2009 11:19:20 PM

I''ve heard of some channel settings and melee having *glue* used which can in turn change from colorless to brownish with age/chemical interaction, but it was my perception that this was a shortcut used on low-priced settings (like for CZ or white topaz in sterling silver for mass-market). Could it be that your fine ring was handed over to a novice benchman who didn''t know how to do it properly and erroneously took this shortcut?
This can and did happen to my first engagement ring mounting. Fortunately, I got a full refund, walked away and never went into that store again.Date: 8/1/2009 4:31:20 PM

Heres my thoughts.
Yes there are brown tinged diamonds ,just like yellow body color, and so they can be soaked all night long and it wont change a thing about their body color. The second thought...they burned your diamonds while doing the repair work.If the torch is to hot and left long enough on a diamond it will dis-color the diamond or diamonds around it.This is my theory if your diamonds were all g color when you went in the store and the two end ones are next to the repaired section is that they were heat damaged.
So what happened?Date: 7/30/2009 4:12:02 PM

Diamonds looking brown...like really brown if there is dirt under the diamond in the setting (channel)???
