Has anyone ever deliberately bought a stone for a recut?

I would a chance If the price is right, and if the stone had a GIA report with VS+ clarity.
Don't forget to check for strain.
I don't have anything in mind yet.. ;))
My point was that there are things that even you with all your knowledge about diamonds might not think of all that have to be taken into consideration for a buying for re-cut decision.
I could have named a bunch more things but I don't want to pick on you :}

Look at the diamond's side view.
Where did they put the girdle ... too high, too low, or just about right?

If the girdle is too high or too low you'll lose more weight than you would if it's closer to just right.
Kenny..I'm sure the ladies here can answer your Q about girdles.. ;))

Those girdles reduce spread. :lol:

I know GOG finds stones for the purpose of recutting into an AVR/AVC for their clients when they don't have want they want in stock.

There is another thread discussing recuts and it was stated that the pavillion angle had to be greater than 41 to be able to recut the stone. The link you gave for that recut by BGD you will note that the pavillion angle was 41.8 on her stone before the recut.

Sorry can't recall if the pavillion angle or pavillion percentage needs to be greater than 41.
