Jonathan at GOG is fully an "internet" vendor, and a jewelery store. He and a few others represented on this board are specifically set up to do what you''ve suggested.

WF, less so. I bought years ago from JA when I specifically sought out a local internet vendor. Jim is probably less reluctant to have people visit now, and WF will see you by appointment.

Now...having an appointment to go to GOG is still a very good idea, as he''s quite a popular guy. Although, living near GOG, you also live near many many other diamond vendors...still...that is the first place I would send you.

Good wishes and good shopping.

Yes, I have been to GOG. I spoke to Mary. They are really nice people and actually operate a B&M store as well.

what other diamond vendors are in the nyc area that u recommend?

I'm not sure his site helps much...maybe it does...but I read here that Engagement Rings Direct, also a featured vendor here...is well regarded.

Actually...having just gone to his (Mark Turnowski's site), I'd caution you about opening it. I'd read before about virus activity associates with some sites, and I believe his was one reported...and believe my Norton just pinged me as I opened it.

But...he's supposed to be a helpful guy, anyway.

thanx!!!

I live about 20-30 mins away from GOG, and I''ve been there twice. I met with Jonathan at GOG and he is amazing. My boyfriend and I made an appointment to meet with him and he spent about 1.5 hours with us just teaching us about diamonds (similar to his website but LIVE!!).

It was great -- I''ve never had such an amazing experience at any other jeweler. I would highly recommend contacting Jonathan to make an appointment! The diamonds he has posted on his site are GORGEOUS in person!!

I can''t wait to have my own GOG diamond to stare at all day.

LOL, you make me curious- most of my experience at B&M jewelers have been less than positive (a local jeweler scratched a stone I had him set, the chain stores seem to hire people with minimal knowledge and because of their overhead, tend to be more expensive.
If I lived close enough to any of our wonderful online jewelers, I''d love to visit :-D

Believe me, if I could go to GoodOldGold, I would, but I live in Texas. Oh, well. Sigh!

I know, I just hate paying sales tax. On diamonds, this adds up to quite a chunk of change.

Fantastic! We bought from them without ever going there, but I''d really love to do that if I was ever in the area! Can''t wait to hear about your visit..be sure to take a camera!

well today was a very interesting day!!! my GF and I met with Jonathan and we lets jsut say our heads are still spinning from all the info he gave. I felt like i was back in College takin Advanced calculus! =) he went thru EVERYTHING!!! Besides the knowledge that he shared w/us I really like how he showed us not only why techincally once stone has a better cut over another but how its better optically and in real world conditions not just using a Brillianscope. WE really like how he all about what YOU want. when he asked for waht type we were lookin for, those are the types he showed us. he would either bring a grade higher or lower jsut to see if we can "see" the differences. But he was never pushy or acted like a "salesman". we were ther for alsmot 2 straight hours. and when we told him we needed to take a break for lunch cuz we were famished ( and our heads were about to explode) he even treated us to lunch at this great Pizzerria right next door!!! talk about Customer realations!!!! After a quick (and ver filling) lunch we went back where he finsihed up and introduced us to Stephanie to help us out with Settings. Overall we were there for about 4.5 hrs!!! I must say I"m really glad i went b/c every other jewelry store i''d been to (kay''s, Helzberg, Zales, The Diamond Exhange and a few mom and pop stores) all the salespeople kept on doin was pushin me to "leave a deposit" GOG was the exceptina dn glad that there are still stores out there that are willing to take the time to genuinely help the constomer not only on a purchase but to actaully edcuate especailyl in a field where the majority of buyers goin in not knowin much.

I HIGHLY recommend GOG to anyone here. and if anyone is within driving distance, to call and make an appt w/ Jonathan. you won''t regret it! I hope to contineu to work w/ Jonathan and the rest of the GOG staff as they are defeinlty a place i wouldn''t mind doin business with!

I know of several that have, including GOG, WhiteFlash, myself, Pealrmans, and I am sure I am forgetting several others, like NiceIce.com. I have never heard of a single bad experience had by any of the visiters either. I know we all love to have visitors and to actually meet the people we have been corresponding with. Call or email Jonathon before you go to make sure he can set a time to be able to meet personally with you.

Jon may not be pushy, but I am! Any decisions? What did you see while you were there?

He was showin me the Solasfera rounds...we really like the brillaince of them but dunno if i''ll be able to afford a 1Ct G SI in them....the prices aren''t even liste on ur website!!! that gotta mean serious cha ching

I never have...but I''d really love to go someday!! I''d love to check out pearlmans, WF, and GOG in person! It would be such a riot!

On the GOG site, you can click on "Reserve Diamond" and it will put the diamond in your shopping cart and give you the price.

The Solasferas are priced as follows (I''m assuming this is credit card pricing, bank wire is less):

.96 G/SI1 $6820
.98 H/SI1 $6135
1.03 H/VS2 $8722
1.09 G/SI1 $8062

Hope that helps!
