Just got back from the theater... I loved it! Yes, they did leave out a whole lot of stuff (like Tom Riddle''s memories/The Gaunt story) but I still thought it was great... Any thoughts?

Loved it up until the end. It just kind of... ended. No big build up or anticipation!

I really liked it too! There were very creepy moments to it that really set the mood!

I didn''t like the ending because it was such a set up for the next movies...

It was an awesome movie!!! I thought it''d be longer than what it actually was! I didn''t even have to go to the bathroom once while the movie was showing and that''s a first for me watching a HP movie!

Same here, love the movie but the ending is a bit of a letdown...

It was just... lacking

It was an awesome movie, but not a great reproduction of the book. They left out too much for my taste.

BF and i just saw it last night. we thought it was really good, but i guess i was expecting a bigger ending because i was like "what? that''s it?!". i will say that i really liked seeing another side of Draco that i had never seen before. it was really refreshing!

i haven''t read all the books though...i stopped reading the series after the 3rd one since at the time, it was hard to get a copy of the 4th. it nearly killed me to watch the 4th movie since i didn''t get to read the book, but i just never got caught up in time.

BF on the other hand has never read any of the books, and he''s a HP whiz! he knows the back stories of all the characters and sub-plots, and clues me in on little details here and there.

Loved it...remember how the first books were fun and magical...mostly silly wizardry gone wrong because no one was
good at the spells yet. Now, as the kids have grown up they have become mostly dark and really evil. I was going
to take my 8 year old to the movie but glad I decided against it. (I had read the book but it was a while back and I
sort of get things mixed up between the books).

I still need to read books 6 and 7. Just not a lot of spare time on my hands with a 5 and 8 year old.

My DH and I went to see it last weekend and we liked it. We thought it could have used more Harry & Ginny Weasley scenes, and we agreed the ending was a bit anticlimactic.

DH was really bothered that they didn''t show the Gaunt story line.

They left out a ton (I went opening day, big HP geek here), but to be perfectly honest, they HAD to - that book was long as heck, there was no way they would have gotten everything major in there. That''s why the last book will be two seperate movies. I don''t get why people always say this as their reason for not being completely happy with a movie. It''s really impossible.

The only part I didn''t like was when Harry and Ginny kissed. That was soooo off, and it would have been really easy to do it the way the book wrote it. It was still cute, though.

We''re thinking of seeing it this afternoon.

Is it insanely dark and innappropriate for 7 and 8 year old boys? It''s rated PG. We thought of going this evening because it''s so hot out. Originally we intended to screen it before the boys went, however, now we''re reconsidering.

Thoughts on kids? Thanks.

I totally agree. It would have been impossible to keep everything... The book had 652 pages!! I too think that they could have kept to the Harry/Ginny story a little better. And, the ending of the movie was just like the book! It leaves you with a feeling of sadness, despair, and feeling unsure about the future.

I think it would be fine for kids. It is darker than the previous ones, but not in such a way that kids couldn''t go see it. There were TONS of children in the theater when I went. I was sitting by these three little boys that were so funny - every time Dumbledore did something sparkly they were like, "WHOA COOL!" It was hilarious! I think your boys will love it

I was soooo hurt at the end! I was crying like a fool and so were the girls sitting behind me. My husband thought it was the funniest thing ever.

Thanks! It was suppose to be a suprise for them, but my older son heard DH and I talking about it while he was pretending to be asleep (such a sneaky little one). They''re only going to be able to go if they can make it through the whole day without bickering! Keeping my fingers crossed. We have a "playdate" today so that''ll keep them busy and out of my hair for a few hours.

I''m glad to be able to see the movie with them because normally we''re stuck going to kids'' movies that sound idiotic, like "G-Force!" Ones that would be better off saved for Netflix.

Another HP geek here, I saw it on opening day. I thought it was well done for a movie adaptation, especially compared to the 3rd and 4th movies and I enjoyed it very much. I think they could have shortened the fight at the Burrow sequence so that they could have a more substantial showdown at the end, and that the Harry/Ginny moments shouldn''t have been so awkward, but otherwise I thought the acting had improved and that the major points were still there.

I saw it and was greatly disappointed. They left out what I thought were key elements.

For example, at the lake where Dumbledore is supposed to say "I''m not worried. I''m with you." to Harry shows how much he truly thinks of Harry and his skill. For the greatest wizard ever to be completely at ease in the hands of basically a child says a lot for Dumbledore and Harry. I cried when I read it in the book and was disappointed that it wasn''t in the movie.

Also, little things, like Tonks is supposed to find Harry on the train, not Luna claiming to see wrackspurts with her spectrespecks. That was just stupid to change IMO. It''s not like it would''ve taken any more time to do it the right way and I think Harry needed to hear that Tonks''s patronus had changed (after Tonks saves him she sends her patronus to the castle and Snape mentions that the "new one looks weak" because it''s supposed to be a werewolf because she''s in love with Lupin)

Harry and GInny kissing was a big miss too. Nobody else was supposed to know where he hid his book (and while we''re on the subject, if HARRY didn''t hide the book and mark the place with a bust and a tiara, HOW will he know where the diadem is in future??) Harry and Ginny were supposed to have their eyes meet across the common room. Harry had been stuck in detention and Ginny had to fill in as seeker. The team one and Ginny runs to harry eyes-ablaze and lays one on him. Without this info, you never really know how much Ginny means to Harry so the fact that he''s poring over the Marauder''s Map in future just to look for her "dot" doesn''t mean as much. This is supposed to be the one person that he''s ever been in love with. And, I also was disappointed that at the end, Harry didn''t "break up" with Ginny, telling her he had to to keep her safe. That will also be important in future.

And WTF with the burrow attack? WHY??

I know that the seventh book will be in two movies. Obviously all of the books are too long to be consolidated into a couple of hours so I get that they had to do some creative editing. I''m guessing the movie was well on it''s way before the seventh book had been released and the producers didn''t realize they were removing some pertinent info. I''m guessing that there''ll be two more movies just to fill in the blanks before the ending.

All that being said, I did think the movie was well acted, BEAUTIFUL scenery, great cinematography and special effects. I saw it at the theatre with a friend who also reads the books and she was disappointed too. I''m wanting to hear what DH has to say since he''s only seen the movies. Maybe to someone who''s not a book fan, the movie''s better?

I also thought it was great! It''s been a while since I read the book, but I recall this being my least favorite book of the series (until the end with the cave and stuff). The book just seemed like filler leading into the last book...the movie, on the other hand, kept my attention and seemed to go somewhere. It was not without flaws (all the teenybopperish romance stuff was a little
14.gif
). But otherwise it was a good adaptation.

My favorite book (and movie) will still always be Goblet of Fire. It was just such a turning point in the series...really unforgettable.

+1
I wouldn''t say I was greatly disappointed, but slightly at least. The points you made are valid and I can''t believe they weren''t in the movie. The other thing that upset me was that the cut the funeral of Dumbledore. It was hugely important to the book because he is the only one ever buried on Hogwarts grounds and in book 7 Harry/Ron/Hermione later discover that Dumbeldore was the master of the elder wand (1/3 deathly hallows) where Voldemort retrieves it in an attempt to kill Harry.

I was upset that Dumbledore''s funeral wasn''t in too. You do need to know that he is entombed on the grounds, not cremated or buried or floated down the river. But, I did like the "wands up" concept.

I was not dissapointed because I don''t watch the HP movies with high expectations. They won''t be as good as the book, what movie ever is? I juat take them for what they are and it alows me to enjoy myself without nit picking everything that was different to the book.

Over all I enjoyed it and felt it was much better executed then the previous films. The Art direction and cinematography was really very very good for a HP film, I was very into the larger range of unusual and different shots used and will go and watch it again for a better look at this. I also felt it was far better acted then previous films. It felt to me like they had cut alot out of the ending to cut down the length of the film and IMO this is the wrong place to shave time off. With such a short ending we did not get a long enough wind down after the films climax which feels abit wrong. (avoiding spilling the plot for those who have''t seen it) I think they needed another breif scene at the end about the emotional/sad bit to give at abit more of a conclusion to this before setting up for the next film.

I am a huuuuge HP fan. This was easily my least favorite movie, though I did still enjoy it.

Each book is longer than the previous, which understandably necessitates leaving out more and more in the movie. Still, I cannot get over how much they leave out from the books! It makes the movies soo much less enjoyable for me, even though I know this will be the case. Ah well...

Just had a thought...perhaps some of the ending stuff will be at the beginning of the next movie? Since it''s 2 parts, maybe they''re combining some elements of Book 6 in with 7?

Could be. I''ve been wondering myself where that split is going to take place. I haven''t read the book in a long while, maybe it will be more obvious if I read it again.

Well, we got back a little while ago. I had read the book right after it came out and didn't remember much of the story, so the movie was enjoyable. Now I'd like to go back and read the book to see all that was left out!

Kids liked the movie. . .my 8 year old definetely is old enough for it. My younger son had a difficult time sitting still through the 2.5 hours and kept squirming. Luckily there were only about 10 people in the entire theater.

ETA - For some reason I absolutely love the Bellatrix Lestrange character. Yah, she's all evil and all that, but I think she's so cool!

100% with you, somethingshiney.
although i have to say i LOVED the movie soley becuase it was A/C, and it was 100 degrees out :)

i too thought they left a lot out that played on the characters, and some parts could have been cut short. and the end fighting scene to me was WAY TOO OFF.

+1 Helena Bonham Carter does her character PERFECTLY as always, and Alan Rickman has been FANTASTIC from the start!

In terms of the main character''s acting, can''t say much for the guy who plays harry (can''t remember his name at the minute) or Emma Watson but Rupert Grint is great!

I think the movies are written so that some of the elements in a book can be left out (in one movie) and written into a different scene in the next two movies. Personally I think the book is almost always better, but sometimes chopping up diff elements of the book and re-arranging them so that the movie has a better flow is O.K.

I totally agree with you. I really enjoy the movie, but I don''t understand why they change the kiss.

But overall I did have a great time.
