I have heard a lot of dissenting opinions on exactly HOW hard a stone should be to be put in a ring. I've heard some people say a 7 on the Moh's scale is hard enough, but not for topaz because it has perfect cleavage....some people say it needs to be an 8. Could we get an expert's opinion on hardness of gemstones and how to determine what is really appropriate for rings, especially for daily wear? Does size and cut affect durability? I've also heard Morganite can fade when exposed to sunlight. Please enlighten us!
