I feel badly you haven't received more responses... it's a lovely post. And thank you for sharing the great shots! I love this country, and I want the best for all Americans. Some of us are just scared and angry about recent events, so you'll have to forgive us for being rather reserved about the celebrations this year. I do hope everyone enjoyed their 4th. On PBS, they were actually talking about the Founding Fathers and the events leading up to 1775-76. I never tiring of hearing that recitation, and I like the exposure for younger generations. Fireworks are nice, but it's great to get back to our roots.
I guess I couldn't figure it out since each photo seems like a screenshot of a whole desktop? So I couldn't tell if these were someone's personal photos or just stock photos.

Looks like he screenshotted (is that a word?) his google album. On another note, I didn't know folks were allow up inside Lady Liberty again (that sounds vaguely inappropriate, but I'm not changing it).
The pictures are screen shots.
I started working full time (+) 49 years ago and hadn't taken a real vacation in 38 years so off we went. We did some planning, and the trip went as good as it could have gone. The weather, the food, the places we went, it was a wonderful vacation.
The White House, The Capital, Ford's Theatre, Arlington National Cemetery,
The National Mall +++. I've always greatly appreciated the United States of America and being an American, that appreciation tripled after the visit to DC.
While slowly walking along the Vietnam War Memorial looking at the names of the fallen soldiers engraved in the granite I see the cards, pictures and notes that have been placed at the lower ledge. I knelt down on my knees, picked up a card and read it. It was from a lady that had lost her father when she was a little girl. I placed the card back and noticed one of the grandkids watching me. He asked if he could read it. I told him "Yes, but be very careful and treat it with respect, it's a card for a Dad that had been killed". He looked at me and asked if I was serious, I told him I was. He sat in front of the card cross legged and look it for a few minutes before picking it up and reading it. When he was done, he placed it back gently and exactly the way we found it. Further down was a black and white photo of a young soldier with note from his father written on the back. The dad had written about how much he has missed his son.
I owe these people, Founding Fathers to the most recent killed in action and I strive to be the best American I can be.
If there are any people that watch Law and Order here, the courthouse is just like you see it on the show. Officers and all, plus they let you in without having court business. I did get asked to stop taking pictures but was not required to erase the ones I had taken.
Everyone was very nice to all of us, even though we ended up in a place or two where we were not supposed to be.
As we were leaving, we met a case arbitrator in the elevator. She brought us back upstairs and into a court room. She explained to the kids the whole court process and then tested them on what they had just been told. It was really nice of her to go way beyond her normal duties for us.
She made it into another special event of the vacation.
