My DH turned 39 on the 15th, I can''t wait to throw a big party for his 40th next April.

I was dating DH when he turned 40. He was a little apprehensive about the 4-0, so I didn''t do anything too nutty to embarrass him, but I threw a surprise party at church after the late service. Cake, punch, etc. I told everybody in advance to be there, so nobody ''skipped'' (like we did today!), and we did manage to surprise him -- especially when the priest had me announce that we would be celebrating w/ DH after the service. He had no idea. And it was low key enough that he enjoyed himself. (We both hate to be the center of attention.)

His workplace threw his ''Grim Reaper'' 50th birthday party and invited me. They did the black balloons, black crepe paper around the desk, dead rose bouquet, tombstone cake, etc. He took it in pretty good stride. He''s loosened up over the years.

He''s had to, being with me. I won''t let him take himself too seriously.
