Handshots of new 1ct unheated Ceylon Sapphire- input please

The stone arrived! I like it! I do see areas of extinction. When it is tilted half of it is dark. It was a great price and everything else about it is great. Bigger face up would have been nice but it would have been much more! What do you all think and what kind of ring setting would you go with? I am thinking high karat yellow gold. I don't own a sapphire halo ring yet but a simple bezel with lots of yellow gold showing around the stone appeals to me too. Vendour shots and the AGTA cert picture are in this thread

That's very pretty and it seems like you got a good deal for it. It looks darker in your photos vs vendor photos but maybe it's just the lighting? I agree yellow gold, 18k or even 22k would be nice I have a sapphire ring in 18k YG too and I think it looks so much warmer than having it in WG.

Would you go with prongs or a bezel setting? I like a bezel idea but I don't want to darken it so it would need lots of holes/cutwork in the sides.

Use a collet setting; bezel only the girdle, leaving the pavilion open to allow in lots of light.

Thanks Chrono! What about a halo? How do you think a sapphire halo would look? Halos sound expensive especially diamond ones. I woulx like it to look bigger in it's setting.

Do you mean a halo using sapphire melees? Diamond melees are actually not expensive in small sizes. The bulk of the cost is in the labour to set each melee, regardless of gem type. I expect melee sapphires to be heated, if not diffused, to achieve an even bright blue colouration.

it has great color and the typical shadowing extinction often seen in elongated cushions and ovals. It would look great in a diamond pave halo - forget about sapphires and just make it easier on yourself and go with diamonds. It will look spectacular.
