Most of us righties have a larger ring size on our right hand than on our left. Even if it is just by 1/4 size. I wear a 7.75 on the left and a 8-8.25 on the right. Stupid question, but I assume lefties have larger ring size on the left hand? Do I assume correctly it's because we use the dominant hand more that it either has more swelling or more development?

I'm a rightie, my R ring finger is 1/4-1/2 bigger depending on how thick the shank is. The knuckle is a bit bigger too.

My good friend is a leftie and her L ring finger is bigger than her right, so I do think it's a muscle development thing.. yet another reason to be ambidextrous!

I''ve wondered this too. I''m a rightie and my right ring size is almost 1/2 size bigger than the left.

Great thread idea, AprilBaby!

I''m a rightie. My right ring finger is about a 7.0, and my left ring finger is about a 6.75. I''ve noticed that all of the fingers on my left hand are smaller than the corresponding finger on my right hand, usually by 0.25 to 0.50. Also, my right ring finger is the same size as my left thumb! LOL!

I am left handed, my right hand is around 1/2 to 3/4 of a size larger.

My right hand is a whole size bigger than my left!

Like diamondrnglover, my dominant hand is my smaller hand. I''m right-handed and wear a 6.5 on my right hand and an 8 on my left (big discrepancy!)

I am left handed and the left side is about 1/4th smaller than the right, bit I am quite ambidextrous as are many lefties.

Same here :)

My fingers are the same size on both hands, but I am right handed and in NO way ambidextrous.

I''m a righty and my right hand ring finger is a whole size larger.

This is an interesting topic because when I was getting married, I asked peopkle what to do with my e-ring during the ceremony because my ring finger had to be bare to put on my wedding ring. A lot of people said they just wore the e-ring on their right hand, then once the wedding band went on, they put the e-ring over the wedding band. I told them I couldn''t because my right hand was a whole size bigger, and people looked at me like I was a freak! Now I know I''m normal.

I am a rightie. My left ring finger is about a 5.25-5.5 (but I wear my rings at about 1/2 to 1 size bigger for comfort). My right ring finger is about a 5.5-5.75.

My middle and index fingers all range from about a 7-8.5 (mostly due to fatter knuckles!), and are about 1/4 size difference between hands.

Ditto, although mine is almost 3/4 size smaller.

I''m right handed and my ring finger size is a "5" on that hand; 4.75 on the left.

I think with wearing ring on the left ring figer has sorta changed the size?
I am a 5.25 on my left and on my right ring finger is about 1/4 to 1/2 bigger :)

I am a leftie and very ambidextrous! :)

I am also a leftie and very ambidextrous as well. My left hand is about a 1/2 size smaller than my right!

I'm a righty, and my right ring finger is a 5 and my left is a 4.

However, I read in an older thread here (can't remember who said it) that regardless of handedness, most people's right hand ring finger is larger than their left hand ring finger. They took a poll or something?

I am a right handed person. My RHR''s are size 6 and my wedding rings (put together) are 5.5 to 5.75.

I''m a leftie and my ring sizes are the same. I can wear my rings on either (ring) finger. Makes things easy when I want to switch it up.

I'm a lefty (and ambidextrous!) and I think my fingers might be the same size on both hands. My rings slip on easier on the right hand, but I think that's because they're naked all the time, whereas my left finger is always fully clothed so there's a notch at the bottom where they sit.

And I think that''s so interesting how your finger develops that little notch from wearing a ring. I look at pictures of my ring on my finger when I first got engaged and I had little muffin rolls around the band. Now it looks fine.

To answer the original question. I''m right-handed. My left finger is probably a 4.25 and my right is a 4.5 but my ering is a 4.5 and I can wear it on both hands.

Interesting subject.
I''m a rightie and my right-hand fingers are larger than my left.

I initially thought this must be because we use our right hand more must result in larger muscles in the finger.
But then, the knuckle is larger too.
Hmmm.

Question for our doctors: As with muscles, does more usage make bones larger?

Very interesting and not what I expected. Looks like almost everyone regardless of handness has a larger right hand! A WHOLE size larger is quite a difference! Thanks for contributing!

I''m a rightie, and my right hand is actually a little smaller than my left. I''d say my two ring fingers are very similar in size (with the LH being just slightly smaller) but there is a definite difference between my middle fingers. I''m not sure what the size is, but rings that I can wear on my right middle finger won''t fit on the left side.

The simple answer is yes. You would not see it in fingers generally as it makes bones more dense and only once they reach a certain thickness will they start to enlarge. They also don''t get bigger all the way around. The muscle attachment get bigger and stick out more, but the rest of the bone doesn''t except in extreme cases like athletes. Unless the person was a lifetime piano player or something like that, you wouldn''t see it by looking or measuring the finger bones, only an x-ray or cross section would you see the density and therefore the effect of the heavy muscle use.

I''m right handed, but my left ring finger is larger by 0.25-0.5 from my right ring finger. Glad to know I''m not the only one who goes against the "rule"...

I''m right handed, but I can use my left hand almost as well - I can write and draw/paint with it. My ring size is slightly bigger on the right hand, like 1/4 or something.

I have about a 1/4 to 1/2 size difference between the left and right (right handed, its bigger).
