Shortly after I gave birth to DS, SIL gave me a bag of hand me downs clothes. I sorted through them for sizes and seasons, and there were a few pieces that have obvious stains. I was kind of gross out by them, so DH told me to just not use them if they gross me out. So now I am wondering if it's ok to give out stained clothes? or am I just being weird about them?

And this leads to the next questions. What do you do with stained clothes?

I don''t love stained clothes myself, so when I put Amelia''s stuff together to give to friends, I was going to take the stained stuff out. But the person I gave them to said she didn''t care, so I didn''t bother since not much was stained anyway.

Milton''s Sterilising Fluid diluted is great, as is Vanish - not sure if either of these exist in the USA.

I threw out any stained items before giving D''s clothes away.

I would throw out stained clothing. I think hand-me-down clothing should be in wearable condition.

Yeah, what do you do with stained clothing

I''ve just been stuffing all of Sophia''s clothes that don''t fit her into a box and crying over it. I''m sure there are some stained clothing in there. When I sort through it to give away, I will be separating the clothing that has stains on it but I''d hate to throw it away.

Pandora-Does that work even after the stain has set in?

I always try to rinse her clothing right away so that the stain doesn''t have time to set in but I''ve missed a couple of onesies/pjs.

Fiery, what I was going to do was either donate it, or offer it free on Craigslist.

Yes!

Milton''s does bleach though, so you can get colour changes. Vanish is great though - sometimes I''ll have to run something through twice, or I''ll do a very hot wash and that tends to do the trick.

I once was able to easily get a stain out with Soilove after the item had actually gone through the wash. Soilove is fairly cheap and at the grocery market. A little goes a long way and I can''t live without it.

Definitely available in the U.S.

we got some hand me downs from a friend and a few items have smallish stains here and there. honestly as long as its not like some huge blotch on the butt then i don''t really care, esp if its cute, i am like who notices. but if its spread across the whole butt and ORANGE then you know it''s poo haha and that is kinda gross.

even though in reality its like well if its been washed 500 times then it''s not really anything anymore. it''s just color on another color. yanno?

We use the stained clothes for play clothes, when I know they''re going to be out messing in the yard. I keep them in a separate drawer. When they were little and obviously not going out to mess in the dirt, I still kept the stained/worn things in a separate drawer, and that was my fall back if I didn''t get laundry done and needed to have *something* on them and we weren''t going anywhere, or if it was like, one of those creepers or onesies, I used them for jammies.

I would throw it out. When I put away ds''s clothes, I kept the outfits I really liked and put everything else in a bag to give away. I did not go through this stuff very closely and have no idea if there''s anything stained in it. If I were to give that bag of stuff away to someone I knew, I would not mind at all if the person I gave it to threw out anything that was stained. If there was stuff in there that was just not their style, I wouldn''t care if they didn''t use it, but I''d hope they''d pass it on (heck, there''s stuff I gave away that was nms but I had from gifts, etc.).

Those set in stains are soooo hard to get out. I''d use what you can as long as they aren''t too obvious, heck the baby will make their own stains.. They kind of blend together, LOL!!!!

FYI, I was on vacation with DD and my husband. I got a stain on my white pants, and DD pulled out a rolo pen from CVS that once I rolled it on the stain, it was gonzo!!!

I am going to CVS to stock up on these... I swear it was a miracle!!!

Can ya tell little things make me happy???

If it were someone I was close with I would accept the stains since they are so likely with little ones and I would use those clothes when my babe was eating something that I am sure would stain or use them when we werent going anywhere or having company just to play in.

If it were from someone that I am not close with I think I would refuse to use the ones

When I get stains on my clothes it either turns into yard clothes or rags. I dont mind having a mustard stain on my shirt when I am digging in dirt. The flowers dont care that I am sloppy.

Will the soilove work on something that had been dried in the dryer? One of M''s old dress has some yellow stain on it. It''s not food stain since she wasn''t eating solids yet then. Not sure what it is really. I don''t remember it being there when I put it away. I would hate to just toss it since it''s Ralph Lauren. But I don''t feel right donating stained clothes either.

Mara - I know what you mean. I am not concerned that there''s still something there. It just look gross to me, even M''s stained onesies do and I know where those come from. DH already told me I am crazy for being bothered by it, and I know he is right. I just need to get over it.

I don''t give out stained clothing just the nicest items. For my own children, I''ll use the stained shirts as pjs or as undershirts. As for the stained clothes, I have posted on Craigslist about four times and each time I have found takers.

One man''s junk is another man''s treasure!

HI:

I use stained clothing as "rags". I wouldn''t want to receive the same, hence I wouldn''t give it out.

cheers--Sharon
