do these freak anyone else out? it just looks weird to see hand mannequins modeling rings (as opposed to actual hands).

I agree, I find them a turn off. They are used on ebay a lot.

YES absolutely. A few ebay vendors use them and they give me chills.

I don't really freak out, but I do find them creepy. Fun observation!

Super creepy! :errrr: I love to see how a ring looks on, but on a real hand please!

yeah I think creepy is a better word to describe it.

Gods, yes - total uncanny valley territory.

I have always wondered who the hand model is for Fay Cullen, and if that's a real hand. It looks so...perfect...and it bugs the sh*t out of me! Those nails! That unwrinkled skin! Gah!

I just went to Fay Cullen...it does appear to be a real person? It definitely looks like they just photoshopped all of the rings onto the one photo...

Yeah they creep me out too.

This creepy feeling (called "the uncanny valley") is brilliantly explored and exploited in one of the finest episodes of that c1960 TV show, The Twilight Zone.
A woman, played by Anne Francis who would later star in the series Honey West, finds out she is really a department store mannequin on vacation, which means getting to take a turn being a real human for a month.
A true masterpiece from the show's creator Rod Serling.

Is this girl for real? Seriously. I've never seen someone so much in love with herself.

Never thought about it. My mom was a nail tech so we always had practice hands around the house

I think I've become desensitized, but they totally make me laugh-especially the soiled ones.

eta-I love that Twilight Zone episode! One of my all time favorites.

Gah!!!! SERIOUSLY that lady's demeanour scares me! *shudder*
Alice

I also find them slightly creepy.

That lady wants to make me gag! :knockout:

Edit - Oh, BTW...I hate those fake hands that a lot of ebay vendors use. They never give me a good
feel for how the ring looks. The ring is usually just hanging off the finger looking very sad no matter how
pretty it really is.

I didn't think it was possible but the parody of the hand-model interview was even funnier than than the interview itself. That woman is weeeeiiiiirrrrrd.

gives me the chill...

Excuse me I don't understand all very well but is this a joke or is a real mannequin hand?

I absolutely loooooove Twilight Zone...such an awesome show. I'd love to buy the DVD's of it...if they exist. I'll have to youtube that episode.

As for the youtube video of the weirdo hand model, I'm freaked out.

Netflix has all of the The Twilight Zone episodes, streaming.
I'm in the middle of the second season now.
Serling was a genius.

It's also fun to see many later-stars paying their dues, like William Shatner, Burgess Meredith, Leonard Nimoy, George Takei, Robert Redford, Jack Klugman, Lee Marvin, Cliff Rogerson, Bill Bixby, Charles Bronson, Carol Burnett, Robert Duvall, Peter Falk, Dennis Hopper, Ron Howard, Cloris Leachman, Elizabeth Montgomery, Lulie Newmar, Burt Reynolds, Jonathan Winters KickYork, and Martin Landau.

... and that's just the ones who's names later became household words.

What really freaks me out are the hip-down mannequins for pants!! :errrr: I've seen shop windows that have these mannequins cut off at the hip! Wearing pants! So creepy.

In general, any disembodied part of a plastic person is a little creepy.

The hand mannequins don't bother me that much. I suppose I'd rather have them than no hand shot at all. I need to see a hand shot if I buy online!

Yes they freak me out.
