Do you know what is done with the waste gold and platinum?

I asked Mike and he said that, yup, the left over or waste pieces all go back one or two times a year to their metals supplier, to be refined back into pure metals. But of course, they buy it as pure and sell it back as scrap, so that kind of thing is a cost consideration with this process.

Whereas, for example vendors who use CAD and wax would have very little to no cast-off metals during production, I imagine.

Thanks for asking about this. It's one of those practical details that I find fascinating. I think I was taken a little by surprise at how much scrap metal there was, so it's good to know it doesn't go to waste.

Unbelieveable-no wonder custom work isn't always the least expensive option! And it's so awesome that you got to see the process every step of the way, too!
