Hello :wavey: ,

I would like some help and details on a setting! I know pretty much what my girlfriend likes: the stone is going to be a 1 carat, pear shaped (color D, excellent cut with VS1), with the setting being Split Shank and a small Halo around the diamond.

I don't know much more though, and I don't buy the diamond in a shop so I wanted to ask you a few more details to know as much as possible :read: !

For the split-shank:
- How does the measurement for the split shank work ? Do we specify where it "starts" to open, and then how wide it is just next to the diamond, or is it completely determined by the center stone ?
- Since there are usually no small diamonds "under" the ring, do we also specify where the small diamonds on the ring start ? Towards the middle ?

For the halo:
- I know she would like a small Halo. What size do you recommend for a 1 carat pear shaped ? Can we choose this as well or the jeweler chooses for us ?
- What else is there to choose ? I don't like the metal around it like in

How is that called ?
- Also, is there more to choose ? Prong, Bezel ?

So excited to have it done and show it to her!!

Feel free to redirect me on links, I didn't find too much of these details while googling. Thank you!!

Hi! A couple questions:

Do you have the pear diamond already? If not, what is your budget (if you don't mind sharing) for the diamond and/or the setting? People here can help you find a nice diamond if you don't have it yet. Pear shaped diamonds do not have a cut grade (like "ideal/excellent" - only round diamonds do - pear diamonds are considered "fancy" cut diamonds) but rather are based more on factors like how you like they way they each look with regard to being wide short stones or long thin stones (ratio) and whether or not they have a bowtie (area in the middle that can appear dark). It is all about preference with regard to how they appear to you and also seeing ASET images that show how the light performs.

For the setting, depending on your budget there are lots of vendors who can make the ring just how you like - if you see a photo of another ring that has what you want you can show them a picture and you can request changes (like how wide the split will be, where the side diamonds will start and stop). If you pick a vendor that hand forges the rings then it will be best to see their past work and base you model off of that (with respect to how their side diamond details look, if there is something you want them to change about how they typically create the rings) - if you select a vendor who casts the rings, then they can send you a CAD (computer generated rendering) of what the ring will look like before they make it. This way you can make changes before it is created and get a really good idea of how it will look. Hand forging a ring will be significantly more expensive than casting.

As for the halo that you showed as an example, I do see what you are saying about the metal. There are certainly other styles of halos that will not show the metal like that. Once everyone here gets an idea of what you budget is, then they can recommend styles from vendors that will fit the bill
