I have been thinking about this for some time. I love the halo settings and they are so pretty. But with a stone (cushion or radiant) around 4ct., would the halo be too much? With a stone that size, would it be better to just let the stone take center stage? I have a size 5 finger and I am also concerned that a 4ct. stone with a halo and side stones might not even fit on my finger!

Hi Ann,

It''s a personnal choice. A 4-carat would look great with or without the halo/picture frame. I have a size 5 finger and my Beaudry 4-carat ring with halo and side stones looks just right. The step cut trapezoids and the halo enhance the center stone. I have tried on another version with brilliant traps and I thought they do not work as well, because when you look at the ring, it becomes a ''blur'' of brilliance adn the center stone does not stand out. I have worn solitaires before, but for me, it''s time for a more elaborate ring. Good luck to your quest for the perfect ring.

I''d let a 4 carat stone stand on its own but it''s certainly a personal choice. Try on different settings and see what you like best.

I think a halo would look nice, but if I had a 4ct stone, I would let it stand on its own with either a pave or shared prong diamond shank. Possibly even detail on the head, like pave on the basket and prongs. But I'd let that 4 ct take center stage!

I do agree with Elepri that it would help to try some different settings on, but it may be hard to visualize those with a 4 ct stone, which I doubt many stores have just lying around. If you can find a store with some large stones, it never hurts to see the styles on your finger. Good luck!

This is something I like, but there would certainly be changes. I also want Leon to build it.

Ann, I agree that you really need to go try on some rings. Go to your nearest Tiffany and see if you can try on a 4 carat Legacy or try a local high-end store. The Leon Mege you posted is a very substantial ring. A 4 carat on your finger is pretty large, but a 4 carat with a halo will definitely get you noticed. You just have to be sure you''re comfortable with that.

I totally agree with the advice here. A 4 ct stone with a halo plus side stones on a size 5 finger will be huge -- probably too bulky for most people. If you normally wear larger pieces, then it won''t be a problem, but I would try to see a few in person before making a final decision.
