Hi guys - I''ve been thinking of doing a 50-60 point stone in one of these petite settings:

She has very petite hands (size 4), but loves these settings. I''m thinking one of these would look great with a half-carat (and I would still be able to stay in the my med-school budget), but I was hoping to get some opinions. Thanks for your help!

Welcome Kwon!

These are both beautiful! I think they would look great with a half carat round. I really like the first one, but either would be lovely, it depends on which one you think your GF would prefer.

They are both beautiful, but I prefer the second one because of how low it sits. The first ring is just too high off the finger for my liking. I attached a side pic of the 2573PR7.

I missed the multiview of the first, in that case I prefer the second one!

Vote foes to the 2nd ring. I like lower setting too. :)

Did you check to see if they have these settings for a round? Did you get a quote from a tacori rep? I ask this because you want to put in a round, but the setting is for a princess. I found a Tacori setting that I really want, but it''s for a round and I want a cushion - well they are charging a $600 customization fee for the slight change. I know you are on a budget (as are we), and I was wondering if they are charging you this fee, or if you have not yet looked into that?

hi Kwon,
they''re both beautiful rings. The only major diff is high set and low set
i guess it depends if your significant other would like her ring set "high" or "low"

i just saw the first ring in store last night, absolutely beautiful, but my BF didn''t like how high it is.

I like the second one a bit better. The first one is pretty, but it sits a bit higher than I would like.

I love

the first one, only if it can be set lower. If not, the second one is lovely also.

I love the second one also. I think a half carat round will be perfect.

Strange! My setting is designed for a RB and I got it for my EC and they changed me NOTHING extra. Maybe things have changed.

I have the first one with a 1.12. I do not think it is too high at all, and these next pics are extreme closeups to try to show how high it sits, it is not nearly as high as the diamond in their website which I think looks ridiculous, The culet is not visible at all, and I adore my ring as do so many others that have complimented it so many times. I hope you get this one as well.

last angle for you. Your stone will also sit lower. This is the petite setting version and ring size 4, the same as your GF

sabinameister your ring is tdf! Those shots have convinced me that setting #1 is the way to go. Another thing to think about, since she loves the setting so much, do you think you will upgrade in the future? if so, what is the largest stone size that the setting can accomodate? A lot of PS vendors have a policy that allows their buyers to upgrade their stone down the road, perhaps this is something you should think about as well

.

ETA: I don't think that a .50 stone needs to be upgraded (particularly in a YOWZA! setting like the ones you've chosen) but you mentioned that you were on a budget and I just wanted to offer some hints that were useful to myself and other PSers. Regardless, this is shaping up to be a really lovely ring!

In this particular setting that is the petite version the stone can be up to a 1.25, that is what my hubby remembers. Thanks for the compliment somehowcollide.

Thank you so much for the photos, and thanks to everyone else for the encouragement. I am meeting with the jeweler Monday or Tuesday to discuss the setting, so I should know more then :-)

I vote for #2 as well!!

Another vote for # 2.

Hey guys! I ended up going with the second one, and she loves it!

The center diamond is a .63 from Blue Nile, H color, SI1 clarity, AGS 0. I was extremely diligent in selecting the diamond (down to running all of the numbers on the holloway cut adviser - this diamond is a .6) and I am more convinced than ever that the cut is by far the most important of the four Cs - this diamond is incredible.

The whole ring was exactly 3K, plus Tacori's $80 mounting fee, plus tax.

Thank you all again for your help!

WOW! Perfect! That diamond looks absolutely fabulous in that ring! Did you get platinum or white gold--just curious. You did great. Congrats!

Thanks, NeverEndingUpgrade! Your earlier post (the link to the .60) was actually what made me start thinking a little bigger :). The setting is white gold. Apparently, Tacori white gold is alloyed with palladium (like Scott Kay), so it is nickel-free. I didn't know that until the jeweler asked Tacori for me.

Hee-hee-hee-hee!
