What do you all think about permanent hair removal? Specifically laser hair removal?

Has anyone tried this or know someone who did? Did it really last? Was it worth it?

I would love to do it, but I think it is expensive and it takes more than one go round and it hurts too, or so I have heard. I hate hair! I am a hairy beast. Well, I consider myself a hairy beast but I am not teen wolf or anything like that. I would get my legs, brows, you know, all the girly parts done so that I would never have to wax or shave again.

I knew someone that did it. She is Italian and she was doing her upper lip. She went like 7 times, it cost a good bit. She never told me how much exactly. She cried afterwards it hurt so bad. She said that there is still some hair there.

I asked the derm about it and she said that it works the best on dark hair something about the contrast so it wont get peach fuzz.

I had laser on my upper lip and chin because I was sick of waxing and it only cost $1,000, which is what I was spending in waxing in less than two years. My dermatologist has a laser hair removal specialist who works out of her office, so I knew the specialist was certified and I trusted my dermatologist''s referral.

The one thing to check out is whether the specialist you use is certified and by whom. Each state has different regulations regarding who can do laser hair removal, and in some states you can do it with very little education on the machines and such.

It worked really well. I think I had it done three or four years ago, and I haven''t had to wax or anything since. I didn''t have much to get rid of, but it did the trick.

My mom did it shortly after I did and wishes she had done it years ago.

I'd say natural and spend that money on therapy to help you accept your true self.

kenny- really?

Shaving is such a pain. And it always comes back. Especially for camping and vacations. I''d like to go camping for a week and not have to worry about my hairy legs (which B is kind enough to point out -- like I hadn''t noticed?).

I''m thinking it might be a good reward to give myself after finishing each quarter of school. A small patch at a time.

I hate shaving and I can''t use other methods of hair removal but I just say screw it and don''t shave when I don''t want to. I''d rather spend the money on other things (like jewelry) then spend it on hair removal (even though shaving sucks).

Doesn''t it hurt like crazy though? Money I can part with, but pain. Pain I do not handle well.

Was it very painful?
Is all the hair gone or is there left over fine hairs in their place? (if you don''t mind sharing)

It wasn''t very painful at all. It felt like tiny shocks going down the hair shaft, like itty bitty stings. The laser essentially explodes the hair down to the follicle, so there were little black bits under the surface of my skin for a day after, which isn''t great for leaving the house, of course. But they slough off after a day or two.

It works best on dark hair, so if you have tiny blonde hairs or anything like that they won''t get zapped. I have really dark hair and fine skin, which is apparently the best combo for laser removal. If you have fine light hair already it probably won''t go away with the laser. However, the hair that was removed was not replaced by fine hair, no. Now there''s just nothing there at all.

*Keep in mind, I''m just a consumer so this is all what I know based on what my hair removal specialist told me a few years ago.

Do a search if you want some more opinions. I had it done and wished I had used the money for jewelry instead

I did it on my arms. I could have used a couple more sessions, but it got very expensive so I stopped. It definitely made the hair lighter and thinner, but it''s still there. I''m not so self-conscious about it anymore though because it''s much less noticeable, so I guess I ended up happy in the end (although I do wish it was all gone). Someday I might go back for a couple more sessions, but at this point I would rather save my money now that it doesn''t bother me nearly as much as it used to.

I also had lighter skin and dark hair and I was told it doesn''t work so well on light hair.

As for the pain, as Haven said, it stings and feels like little shocks going into your skin/hair, but it wasn''t very painful. I thought it would be much worse. The sensation was annoying and stinging while it was happening, but not something I would describe as very painful.

Perhaps my friend had such a hard time because it was her lip and that is such a sensitive area. I know that when I wax it is more hurtful for my lip than it is for my eyelids.
