Well, as I mentioned in the thread about "your new normal", I was getting desperate and even considering the ponytail on top of your head DIY haircut.

I finally got up the nerve and did it, and it is fantastic!!! I don't have before and after pictures, but I wouldn't even be posting about it had it not gone well, lol.

I may never have anyone else cut my hair again.

@Demon, I’d love to know if you referenced any tutorials? My hair needs HELP.

I did. My hair isn't really long and this was the first one I came across that didn't involve sectioning your hair. It come out as a shag, but I always liked shags. I have much shorter bangs with it though, and cut it shorter all around.

There are a ton for longer hair, if you look. I only really found this one for short-mid length.

Took me all of 5 minutes, tops.

Ooh thanks so much! I’m only up for a ponytail cut. No “sectioning” will be happening here. :D Anything will be better than what’s happening atm lol.

Are you going to try it? I was terrified, but now I wish I'd done it sooner.

I cut my own hair too. I keep my hair shape but it grows out (I hate when it gets shaggy) so I fix it every other month. I use regular hair scissors and thinning sheers.

I can do a great job on the front and sides but not so much the back. But this technique takes care of that. I have thinning shears too, and love them.

Yes, I’m going to try it tonight. Wish me luck, I’m going to need it!

I've been buzzcutting my own hair for c. 15 years.

Good luck! But it's sooo simple. The hardest part is getting into the ponytail evenly.

Lol, but a buzz cut is not layers. If I had the face for a buzz cut I might have even tried that.

Oh, and I don't know how long your hair is. Mine had some hair (not a lot) at the bottom in the back that didn't reach the top of the pony tail, but it didn't affect it.

I just buzz cut the top of my head, not my face. ;))

Seriously, it never occurred to me to find out whether "I had the face for a buzz cut".
God! I HOPE I do.
After all these years, what if I don't? :-o

Lol. Some women though really look good with very short hair. I'm not one of them, sadly.

I used to cut my own hair as he did in that video. Now I have it long so that I can pull it all back in a ponytail. I cut my own bangs and can trim the back myself. I've been cutting my husband's hair for years too. #4 comb all over.

The only thing that stopped me from getting a 2 inch blade and doing my whole head that way, is at the time clippers were in short supply. Thankfully!

DH had to fix what I messed up a few weeks ago, so now I have short hair. I can’t see the back either, so idk what it looks like back there lol

I haven't cut my hair since 2018, once in a while I get antsy consider a cut and actually contemplated it at my neighbor's house. She was more than willing to cut it but I chickened out. It's past halfway down my back so at this point I'm kind of seeing how far I can go with it

You mean people care how they look?
Why bother?

When my nephew (12) came to stay two years ago my sister send haircut money
we gave him the option of a #1,#2,#3,#4 and he could keep the money for himself

He was horrified
We were kinda horrified also

The lady barber however was really nice and did a great job and only wanted to charge child rates
I made her keep all the change (we don't generally have tipping here)

@Demon, I did it!!! It was my first haircut THIS YEAR and it felt amazing. I used your video and basically gave myself and my grandmother the same haircut. Then we took a pandemic selfie together and sent it to my parents who are stranded in Europe. They were both impressed and mildly horrified lol. In the end it’s become a memory I’ll always treasure. And damn, I can’t believe I waited so long. Thanks so much for the encouragement :)).

Yay!! 'm so glad it went well. I hadn't had a haircut since last Nov or Dec, and I'm so glad I did it, too.

I now have a ponytail. My hairstylist is still closed :(. If I really wanted a haircut, my daughter would help. I have a thin hair so layers are not for me. My husband demands haircut every 3 weeks strictly, I am his hairstylist for many years now. DIL cuts my son's hair regularly too. This morning we saw a poor elderly couple walking their doggie. The man has a looooong, white hair and looks feminine now and the woman has a very short and unevenly cut hair. Obviously she did this to herself. But they were happy to see us and waved cheerfully :D

My stylist would be so judgemental if I even attempted to cut my bangs at home. So I guess I'm just growing everything out, because even though I could go for a haircut, I'm not ready to contemplate actually going through with it yet. Plus I tell myself that for the $100, I could definitely wait a longer time. He'll understand.

Lol, that's one of the reasons I held out I think. I didn't want to have to schedule a "fix my screw up" appointment. It would have been embarrassing.

DH and I have always cut our own hair ... he's got his Wahl buzz kit, and I've got my decent haircutting scissors and thinning scissors ... we do it ourselves and just get the other one to help even out the back side if need be ... I don't mind a screw up, my hair grows pretty quickly, and if it is crooked, I just scrunch it more ... I cut a hole in the side that took almost a year to grow out ... lol ... learned another lesson that time ... but playing with my own hair is one of my joys.
