Hair color

I am very very lucky to be 64 and my hair is still the same blonde color with no gray or white.

Damn, I’m so jealous! My mom went grey young and I’ve been following in her footsteps. :wall:

I use Garnier nutrisse R3 (ultra bold red). I have naturally mousy brown hair, but I’ve been drying it red for years. I‘d love something a little lighter and with a bit more copper, but good reds are tough to find.

I think the secret to looking younger with gray hair is to always have a current, stylish cut. In some instances, I think women look younger once they let their hair grow out. I think harsh, dark colors can be very aging. They were on me.

I agree
And although I haven't taken the plunge and stopped coloring yet, I've talked about it with my hairstylist. She told me you also have to change your makeup (assuming you wear makeup) because the change in hair color will change the way your skin tone appears as well.

I had to change from warm toned makeup to cool toned makeup. In my photo, I didn’t do my brows, but I usually use a gray eyebrow gel too.

I get mine dyed at the salon every 8 weeks or so. My hair is brown/auburn and I dye it a brighter red than it is naturally (kind of like a deep red with copper tones).

Started dying my hair when I was graying. Wella permanent Color Charm 4N and 4A. I mixed the bottles with a 2:1 ratio of 20 volume developer. The N provided warmth and grey coverage and the A gave it some ash overtones. Looked naturally highlighted and matched my hair color. Did roots every 4-6 weeks depending on social calendar. Gradually over the years increased the numbers as the grey was more prominent and I would look like Pepe Le Peau with the skunk spot down the center part. Periodic highlights done professionally added more color. Now I am a 7 A and 7N with 20 developer. Never have gone higher with developer. Again periodic highlights make the 7N7A look like natural low lights as they are applied only on the roots. Have fun doing it. I love the $ I save. But if you go professional after doing it yourself do inform the stylist as it may impact the type of dyes used.

I gave in and got my hair cut on Thursday, had 5” chopped off. The guy who cut my hair was very complimentary about my colour, I told him I do it myself.

When I did color, I used demi color from Sallys. I’m having a hair crisis this year. It has thinned terribly around the hairline. I can see scalp. Growing out the grey, but the ends permanently stained by the demi color. Probably time for a chop. Feeling like Gene Simmons hair:) I’m 58 and when I go dark, I get that weird pasty dyed contrast because my skin is pale. I do like putting it in a ponytail (tiny one).

You all look so good. I love it when I can see your faces <3

@Austina you are looking quite stylish! Love it!

@DAF and @Piper70 you look so sunny and natural in your blond shades. Very pretty!

@stracci2000 and @Housecat you both look so natural and sensational in your greys!

@Looking again, your caramel soft "highlights" that aren't intentional are quite lovely.

@YadaYadaYada You have the cutest babyface!

For what it's worth, I never changed the way I apply my makeup now that my hair is going white. I still love the brick red lipstick.
I also don't have a stylish cut, it's just all one length and trimmed on the ends.
I'm not high-maintenance at all.
