Loved the makeup. Hair was a bit of a disaster. Same girl did both and would be the one doing my hair/makeup as well as three bridesmaid''s hair on the day of. She works under a lady who owns a wedding hair/makeup on location business, so I can''t really have her travel out to us for JUST my makeup. Either we use her for everything, or I''m completely back to square one (even though the makeup was exactly what I wanted). Sigh.

She did my hair twice. The first time I ended up with a gigantic, but nicely done, knot on the back of my head. Perfectly centered on the back of my head, to be exact. I didn''t get photos of that one, though. I clarified that what I liked about the ''do in the photos I showed her was how it was a french twist w/ the knot thing at the crown of the head to give it some interest. She agreed, and tried again. This time I got a short twist with a smaller, messy knot at the top of it. The knot wasn''t much higher than where the first one was located. Immediately after she finished and handed me the mirror she acknowledged that it still needed to be higher and that she would make sure it was on wedding day. Oh, and overall I just didn''t like what she did with the front. It was originally higher, and I asked her to soften it and blend it more with the sides. The way my hair was pinned she could make the top less poofy, but she couldn''t loosen the sides without undoing everything. I played with it a bit once I got home to try a side-swept part, but it was so sticky with hairspray that I couldn''t get a good idea of what it would look like if done originally that way.

Anyway, the photos. I''ll start with the good. LOVED my makeup.

I''m not naked, promise. I was wearing a strapless top and was holding up the matching wrap that came with my dress to give an idea of what it might look like.

This was after I went out with my MOH to eat. Lipstick/gloss wore off quite a bit, so I threw on a coating of clear gloss for the pic. This is also after I pulled out the top poof of my hair and pinned it to the side.

And...the hair disaster.

She didn''t take the time to deal w/ all the flyaways, because after doing the hair the 2nd time we were cutting into makeup time.

And for those who didn''t see it in my last thread, this was the hair inspiration that I showed her:

Love the make-up!

Re the hair, I often wonder if it doesn''t make more sense to give a stylist parameters, and then let them do a style they KNOW how to do and have a lot of practice doing. As in ''I don''t like x, I want it to have feature y and feature z now go for it!''

I did that for WP2 and it was great. Just a thought.

I agree, make-up is gorgeous!! Hair = not the best it could be. Is there any way you can go with this stylist for make-up, but not hair? Or are you looking for someone new?

I agree also-I love the makeup but the hair isn''t as great as it could be. You have amazing cheek bones by the way!

Indy, I''ve emailed and asked if she can do another trial with me for just the hair. If she will, then I''ll probably relax my request from "what''s in the pic" to "swept up, something soft around my face, bulk of my hair at the crown of my head. Nothing too messy, no curls." Fingers crossed ...

Sarah, unfortunately I can''t get her for just makeup (or at least I don''t think I can). She''s an on-location person, and so I''d be bringing her out for the day of the wedding just for my makeup and nothing else (the rest of the girls want to do their own makeup). If I do another hair trial with her and it just doesn''t go well, then I''ll probably ask if that''s a possibility and what the charge would be.

Bee, thanks for the compliments!

Oooooh, that makeup is absolutely perfect

I hope she can redo a trial with you for hair....i actually liked the hair pics, but i agree it was missing a little something. the side view was pretty, but i am not quite sure about the back. another trial would definitely put your mind at ease i am sure

p.s. even with the hairspray, i liked what you did with it when you got home, pinning it to the side. You could actually pull off either style nicely -- straight off the face or parted to the side like you did. and i agree, the back needs to be higher - she''s kind of crossed the french twist with a chignon (sort of). Either way, you sure look pretty!

I agree with parting on the side instead! The back of the updo definitely looked unfinished or something compared to the inspiration pics, but that can be fixed, I would just tell your stylist to do a side part instead and make sure the back of the updo looks "finished"...I know the look is supposed to be soft and romantic, but the trial is way too messy looking, imo. You have beautiful hair and features, ladyciel! I love the makeup, it''s very bridal and beautiful.

i agree that the makeup is great!

i also agree that the hair is a little underwhelming. if she can''t get it right for the second trial i would keep looking elsewhere....another makeup artist will likely be able to replicate the makeup pretty easily. i think that a good hairstylist should be able to do pretty much anything you ask......why should you not get the wedding hair you want just because they are only able to do variations of three different styles!?

and let me know if you want the name/# of my stylist. i love her!

I can''t wait to see the second trial! I think she has potential, it was close to what you wanted just not quite there.

Oooh, yes please!

her name is donna and she is part owner of a salon in downtown northville. the # there is 248.449.1966. she's great! (and if you go, you can look through the book of updos and see my hair for every homecoming dance i went to

)

normal updos are $75 i think, but i'm not sure how much wedding hair is or how they do trials.... (i should probably find this out soon, shouldn't i?)

Thanks!!

Oh, and what do you guys think of the new earrings? I''m wearing them in a couple of the photos. They really sparkle IRL, especially with any movement. I wore them out with my MOH after the trial, and she commented that they really sparkled while we were walking around downtown after dark. I''m thinking of pairing them with a round solitaire pendant (probably fake, since I''m not so lucky as to have the real thing yet) on a short chain.

i love them! and you can definitely tell that they sparkle, even in the pictures. they''d look great with a round solitare pendent.
